About the role

This role presents a fantastic opportunity for an early career researcher to undertake ground breaking research in Alzheimer’s disease/dementia/memory disorders with a particular focus on understanding synaptic dysfunction in this disease and the role of microglia, astrocytes, immune cells and cytokines in regulating these functions.

Bringing your training in neuroscience and an understanding of synapses and synaptic plasticity and experience with relevant techniques your experience with Alzheimer’s/dementia studies would be very beneficial in addition to experience studying synapses and spines in vitro and/or in vivo with a cell biology and/or electrophysiology focus.

Alternatively, we have another project directed to understanding the role of peripheral immunity centrally and so a person with experience in B. Th and T-cell biology, but applied in the CNS, would be considered.

About you

· A PhD in Neuroscience or a related discipline

· A high level of knowledge in the field of neurodegeneration in Dementia & Alzheimer’s diseases

· Experience in cell signalling and/or protein trafficking (preferably as related to synaptic function) including the relevant techniques

· Experience in synapsis biology (regulation of synapse loss preferred)

· Experience in animal research, including colony maintenance and both in vivo and in vitro studies, as well as animal ethics and reporting (image experience an advantage)

· Experience supervising and managing students and research assistants

· Demonstrated experience in Alzheimer’s disease research and successful leadership of research projects resulting in first author publications consistent with this experience
