The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the area of integrated circuit designs and implementations. ECE is an academic community of 1,400 individuals (faculty, staff and students) and includes global research and teaching efforts through extensions of our Pittsburgh academic programs and research in Silicon Valley, Portugal, Rwanda, Thailand and Singapore.
As Postdoctoral Research Associate, you will perform research and engineering tasks in a research project to develop advanced integrated circuit designs and implementations. You will be primarily responsible for the design of digital integrated circuits in advanced CMOS technologies using commercial electronic design automation tools. You will also assist with the generation of reports and data, and the creation of PowerPoint slides to illustrate results. Tasks include meeting with other research staff and graduate students and the possibility of travel for interaction with the fabrication facility. Weekend or evening hours may be required. You should have the ability to travel to U.S. and international locations for meetings with fabrication facilities.
Your core responsibilities will include:
Provides extensive valued added services, including managing of own projects while working closely with other staff/peers to increase effectiveness between both related and diverse areas. Determines priorities for each project and meets performance objectives.
Performs under minimal supervision. Functions within broad precedents and policies. All normal duties and responsibilities are handled independently. Only the most difficult or unique situations are referred to the PI.
Determines procedures or precedents for self and others to follow. Solutions to problems encountered require quick and effective analysis of in-depth research, conducted by others as well as self, of circumstances, facts and issues which differ significantly from the norm.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering or related discipline.
Two or more years of experience performing integrated circuit design.
Skills:
Use of Cadence tools for the physical design and timing analysis of digital integrated circuits and systems.
Ability to function competently in a team environment; able to respond quickly and effectively to changing situations; ability to balance conflicting priorities; ability to interact and communicate effectively and courteously with members of the campus community and external engineers; ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.
Some broad understanding of related fields; good analytical, technical, and innovative problem solving skills.
Ability to pay close attention to detail, meet inflexible deadlines, remain calm during difficult situations, work under pressure and work with frequent interruptions.
