瑞典卡罗林斯卡学院博士后

Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

The Centre for Structural Systems Biology (CSSB) is a joint initiative of ten research partners from Northern Germany, including three universities and six research institutes. Located in a new research building at the DESY campus in Hamburg, CSSB devotes itself to infection biology and medicine by utilizing structural and molecular biology methods and imaging techniques in conjunction with systems biology approaches. The CSSB houses extensive electron microscopy facilities (e.g. two 300 kV Krios microscopes, one cryo-FIB/SEM, and one 200 kV Talos Arctica) and uses the other world-class research infrastructures located on the DESY campus. Hence, the CSSB is a fantastic place to do world-class structural biology. The position is based at the Centre for Structural Systems Biology Hamburg/Karolinska Institutet.

As a part of Swedish-German bilateral collaboration, the Röntgen-Ångström cluster, Karolinska Institutet has activity in the CSSB since 2012 in the form of a small research group financed by the Swedish Research Council.

Your mission

The project aims to structurally and biochemically characterize the herpes-virus replication process. The Hällberg subproject in the collaboration focuses on obtaining high-resolution structural information of replication components and intermediates. Main techniques involved are single-particle cryo-EM, macromolecular crystallography and biochemistry. In the project, we will utilize the DESY PETRA III beamlines for macromolecular crystallography and the extensive CSSB in-house cryo-EM facilities.

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral fellow interested in studying the structural biology herpes-virus replication. The project is part of a multi-disciplinary international collaboration between the groups of Kay Grünewald at the Heinrich-Pette Institute/University of Hamburg and Martin Hällberg at the Karolinska Institutet/CSSB.

Your profile

We are looking for highly motivated, independent and driven candidates. The successful applicant will have a background either in structural biology or protein biochemistry willing to learn or develop skills in state-of-the-art techniques for studying the structural biochemistry of viral replication complexes. A documented ability to independently carry out experimental research projects is required, as are good communication skills in spoken and written English.

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant’s main supervisor, director or equivalent.

What do we offer?

A creative and inspiring environment full of expertise and curiosity. Karolinska Institutet is one of the world’s leading medical universities. Our vision is to pursue the development of knowledge about life and to promote a better health for all. At Karolinska Institutet, we conduct successful medical research and hold the largest range of medical education in Sweden. Karolinska Institutet is a state university, which entitles to several benefits such as extended holiday and generous occupational pension. Employees also have access to our modern gym for free and receive reimbursements for medical care.

About the employment

The position is a URA contract for one year, with the possibility to be extended. The position is based at the Centre for Structural Systems Biology Hamburg/Karolinska Institutet.

Stationing with URA requires a permanent connection to a workplace in another country and there should be an exchange between KI and the university / equivalent abroad.

It is not possible to stay on a URA contract in the country in which you yourself are a citizen, or have a “interest center” in (previously lived and still e.g. own properties, your partner or other family is stationed).

For employment on a URA contract to be possible, you must have been registered (folkbokförd) in Sweden for at least 1 year prior to posting. You must also be registered in Sweden throughout the URA stay to secure taxation and social insurance membership in Sweden.

During your foreign stay, your salary will be taxed in Sweden.

Application

An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

· A complete resumé, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work

· A complete list of publications

· A summary of current work (no more than one page)
