Department of Cell Biology

Postdoctoral position(s) are available in the laboratory of the Nobel Laureate Professor James Rothman in the Department of Cell Biology, Yale University School of Medicine. We are seeking highly motivated and outstanding individuals with an interest in either of two project areas, the structural/biochemical mechanism of regulation of neurotransmitter release; and liquid-liquid protein phase transitions which we are studying in relation to the organization of membrane compartments, especially in the Golgi.

Both projects involve in vitro biochemical reconstitutions combined with sophisticated in vivo molecular imaging, including super-resolution and expansion microscopy. Candidates should therefore have some related expertise, for example in protein biochemistry, structural biology, single-molecule imaging or spectroscopy, quantitative fluorescence microscopy or other quantitative biophysics. Many of our projects involve long-standing collaborations, specifically with Professor Jun Liu (Yale; cryo-electron microscopy); and internationally with the Physics Department, Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris (Dr. Frederic Pincet; soft matter physics); and the Institute of Neurology, University College London (Drs. Shyam Krishnakumar and Kirill Volynski; synaptic biochemistry/physiology).

Applicants should possess (or soon hope to hold) a Ph.D. in any related field with first author publication(s). Subject matter background in membrane research is desirable but not necessary.
