美国国立卫生研究院2020年博士后职位招聘(糖尿病、心血管、脂肪肝等疾病方向)
Multiple postdoctoral fellow positions are available in Haiming Cao’s laboratory in the Cardiovascular Branch of NIH, National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. The Cao lab is supported by mouse transgenic, human iPS, high-throughput sequencing, proteomics, advanced microscopy, animal surgery and bioinformatics core facilities. With an interdisciplinary research environment and strong intramural support, these positions provide a unique opportunity for recent PhD awardees to deepen and broaden their research profile for advancing to an independent academic career.
The Cao group studies the molecular and pathological mechanisms of human diseases particularly diabetes, cardiovascular disorders and fatty liver disease with the goal of effective therapies. The lab is among the first to demonstrate the importance of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in glucose and lipid metabolism in mice (Cell Metabolism, 2016, Cell Reports, 2016 and Cell Metabolism, 2015). However, most human lncRNAs are non-conserved, vastly limiting our ability to identify and experimentally define human lncRNAs that are critical to the pathogenesis of human disease. To address these challenges, the Cao group has recently developed two extensive pipelines leveraging the information of genome-wide association studies (GWAS) (Nature Communications, 2020) and clinical studies of metabolic disorders (accessible at https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.01.01.884023v1) to identify human lncRNAs and lncRNA-derived micropeptides implicated in metabolic disease. Furthermore, the lab has defined the disease relevance of these non-conserved lncRNAs using a humanized mouse model in which over 90% of the mouse hepatocytes are replaced by human ones, or essentially mice carrying a human liver. Successful applicants are expected to further study the molecular mechanisms of these human lncRNAs and micropeptides, and to target them for the development of novel therapeutics against human diseases. In general, researches in the Cao group emphasize bridging the gaps between exciting new findings in molecular biology and therapy development of human diseases. QUALIFICATIONS: Interested candidates must be completing or should have obtained a Ph.D. or M.D. degree with background in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Physiology or a related discipline. Experience in RNAbiology, mouse models of metabolic disorders, cancer biology and inflammatory diseases are highly desirable but not required. In general, quality of past research is more important than experience in a specific field.
SALARY/BENEFITS: These positions are fully supported by NIH intramural funds and successful candidates will be offered competitive stipend/health insurance commensurate with experience and accomplishments.
Applications from women, minorities and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged. Applicants should send curriculum vitae and 3 letters of reference to be sent (via email only) to: haiming.cao@nih.gov. Applications will be continuously reviewed until the position is filled.
