Summary DescriptionColumbia University’s Mortimer B. Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute (the Zuckerman Institute) brings together researchers to explore aspects of mind and brain, through the exchange of ideas and active collaboration. The Zuckerman Institute’s home will be the Jerome L. Greene Science Center on Columbia’s new Manhattanville campus. Situated in the heart of Manhattan, at full capacity the Zuckerman Institute will house over 55 laboratories employing a broad range of interdisciplinary approaches to transform our understanding of the mind and brain. In this highly collaborative environment, labs work together to gain critical insights into human health by exploring how the brain develops, performs, endures and recovers from trauma or disease. The Staff Associate I will establish, maintain and develop neuronal and/or epithelial cell culture in the Fitzpatrick Lab. The candidate will collect and interpret negative stain images using laboratory equipment and will also be responsible for ordering and maintaining supplies for the laboratory. Will be responsible for Immunology, Programming for Structural Biology, Biophysical Chemistry and Data Science. Experience with Cryo-electron microscopy and X-ray crystallography, preferred. Responsibilities included but not limited to: Designing experiments with knowledge of genetics and molecular cloning to engineer neuronal and/or epithelial cell lines. (20%) Conducting experiments to establish, maintain and develop neuronal and/or epithelial cell culture and to maintain and culture neuronal and/or epithelial cell lines. (20%) Prepare project image data using single-particle cryoelectron microscopy (cryoEM). (20%) Logical and careful organization, notation and archiving in purifying and preparing negative stain sample grids. Maintaining documentation of all grids run on microscopes including sample and experimental conditions. (20%) Interpretation and communication, both written and oral, of experimental approaches and scientific findings. (20%)
