We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work as part of an exciting new research team (SARKS – Starting a Resource for Saving Sight) to develop a cell-based model of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
The post would suit an ambitious post-doctoral researcher with a strong background and interest in using pluripotent stem cells to model disease. The successful applicant will work with Dr. Amanda Carr and Prof. Pete Coffey to establish an induced pluripotent stem cell hub that will be used to explore early AMD disease mechanisms in retinal pigment epithelium cells, including ageing, stress and wound healing.
The appointed post-doc will work with researchers at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology (Amanda Carr, Emily Eden, Clare Futter, Pete Coffey) and clinicians and researchers at Moorfields Eye Hospital (John Marshall, Alan Bird, Ali Hussein).
The position is funded by a Moorfields Eye Charity philanthropic donation for a period of 2 years in the first instance.
Essential requirements include a PhD in a relevant subject, experience working with pluripotent stem cells and a strong molecular and cell biology background. A record of disease modelling using induced pluripotent stem cells is desirable. Candidates should also have excellent communications skills, work well as an effective member of a team, have knowledge of retinal cell biology, degenerative disease modelling and/or ageing and a track record and experience of high-quality research.
Applicants should apply online. To access further details about the position and how to apply please click on the ‘Apply’ button above.
Informal enquiries about the post may be made to Dr. Amanda Carr (a.carr@ucl.ac.uk).
If you have any enquiries regarding the application process please email: hr.ioo@ucl.ac.uk.
