Description
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to provide support for field-, and laboratory- and desk-based research relating to soil erosion challenges in Tanzania.
You will join an interdisciplinary research team working on a UKRI BBSRC- funded project ‘Integrated community-driven engagement for sustainable enhancement of food production in East Africa: the Jali Ardhi Care for the Land project’.
You will primarily be involved in co-development of a decision support system for sustainable agro-pastoral diversification and simple environmental modelling of community-specific landscape mitigation and restoration strategies. You will also undertake and/or oversee laboratory analysis and data processing duties on soil health as well as support technical knowledge exchange between laboratories. You will contribute actively to wider project activities, as required, to support the interdisciplinary project team.
The role will require you to work collaboratively with project team members across a range of disciplines, researchers in the University of Plymouth Consolidated Radioisotope Facility and Centre for Research in Environment and Society as well as external bodies involved in the research. You will be willing and available to travel overseas and comfortable spending exended time periods working with overseas research colleagues.
You will hold a PhD in Geography, Earth or Environmental Sciences (or a related discipline).
Further details of the desired characteristics for this post are available in the job description.
Please demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the knowledge, qualifications, training and experience elements of the job description in your supporting statement.
For an informal discussion to find out more about the role then please contact Prof. William Blake by email william.blake@plymouth.ac.uk
Online interviews are likely to take place early July and you will be notified if you have been shortlisted or not.
This is a part-time position working 14.8 hours per week on a fixed-term basis for 18 months due to the nature of the funding.
