Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE is Europe’s largest solar research institute. Research assistant for characterization of epitaxial layer structures for high-efficiency solar cells
What you can expect
The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE is the largest solar research institute in Europe. With our current staff of around 1.200 employees, we conduct application-oriented research for the technical use of solar energy and develop materials, systems and processes for a sustainable energy supply.The research group "III-V Epitaxy and Solar Cells" is engaged in the development of III-V multi-junction solar cell structures with highest conversion efficiencies. Our solar cells are used for power generation in space and in photovoltaic concentrator systems on earth.
Your duties include
Determination of the band gap of III-V semiconductors by spectral photoluminescence measurements (PL)
Analysis of the material quality of epitaxial semiconductor layers by injection-dependent PL measurements
Investigation of the depth dependent doping profile by electrochemical capacitance voltage profile measurements (ECV)
Measurement of contact resistances of multiple solar cells with the Transmission Line Method (TLM) Documentation and quality management of the metal contacts
Inspection and maintenance of the solar cell storage
Various small organisational and administrative tasks
Other measurement methods may be learnt according to requirement and availability.
What you have to offer
You are registered as a student, studying in the areas of Physics, Microsystems Technology, Power Engineering or a comparable subject
You are interested in working in an exciting application-oriented research environment
Ability to work in a team
reliable
independent and thorough approach to work
Good knowledge of MS Office
Knowledge of Origin, background in semiconductor and solid state physics is an advantage
Strong written and spoken English
German language skills are advantageous
Remuneration according to the federal government guidelines for saleries of research assistants. The monthly working time is 30-40 hours.
