爱尔兰皇家外科医学院药学和生物分子科学与化学系2020年招聘博士后职位

Post Date : 28-Jul-2020

Close Date : 14-Aug-2020

Title: Two Postdoctoral Researchers (Microbiology, Chemical or biological sciences)

Department: School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences & Department of Chemistry (one position each)

Tenure: Specified purpose contracts for up to 6 months Location: Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, St. Stephens Green campus, Dublin 2 Reporting to: Prof. Steve Kerrigan & Prof. Donal O’Shea

Proposed Start date: Aug / Sept 2020

Project Background

Since COVID-19 was declared a pandemic in March 2020 there has been a global shortage of PPE, which is placing significant pressure on the Irish healthcare system. We plan to provide the framework for building a national emergency reserve of repurposed facial PPE that will be acceptable to HCWs in the event that international supply chains become dysfunctional or cannot meet the national needs. Through research collaboration of clinical, industrial and academic partners, this innovative project will develop validated methods into for the decontamination of facial PPE through mechanical and biological analysis. We will establish scientific research methods to validate sterilization with respect to viral, fungal and bacterial contaminants and also develop protocols to validate physical structural integrity of decontaminated facemasks.

The successful candidate(s) will work as part of an exciting and dynamic team of scientists, clinicians and industry experts in healthcare sterilization and decontamination. The research entails microbiological testing of decontaminated masks and face coverings following sterilization using several different methods including vapour hydrogen peroxide (VHP) and steam sterilization (autoclaving). A high skill level in relevant techniques related to microbiological testing (bacterial, fungal and viral) as well as an ability to design, analyse and report experiments.

This project is highly collaborative and therefore excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required to facilitate interaction with academic, industrial partners and clinicians. Working to project deadlines to deliver outcomes to our funder is a critical aspect of the post.
