Job Description

Summary

The Estes Laboratory is offering advanced training for a highly motivated and professional candidate to to serve as a postdoctoral associate in a team-based research program in a laboratory setting with primary responsibilities for carrying out research to discover mechanisms that regulate human norovirus replication. The trainee will design, execute and interpret experiments individually and in conjunction with others who are part of a program project research team. Research will be shared in lab meetings and written up in manuscripts that are published. The position requires a person who is a creative molecular virologist able to work well within a team environment and with a willingness to assist team members when needed. The Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine is focused on research to prevent and treat microbial infections and diseases.

Job Duties

· Designs and performs advanced experiments using a broad array of techniques including molecular biology, biochemistry, genetic modification of cells, glycobiology and virology assays to discover new mechanisms that regulate virus replication and to achieve the Program Project's goals to develop new methods to treat or prevent viral infection and disease.

· May involve helping to train graduate students or other trainees and staff in the laboratory.

Minimum Qualifications

· Education Required: MD or Ph.D in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.

· Experience Required: None Required.

Preferred Qualifications

· Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

· The successful candidate will have exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, be regarded as a team player, have strong and proven organizational skills, and have a personal drive to be their best.

· Experience working with human norovirus and organoid cultures is strongly preferred.

· Previous work experience in an academic medicine environment is a bonus.
