Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research associate to start on the 1 December 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful applicant will be based in the Department of Physics at Loughborough University and will work in the area of quantum phase transitions and quantum criticality of correlated systems and in particular on the project, funded by EPSRC, “Designing and exploring new quantum materials based on Fermi surface topological transitions”.
You will find exciting opportunities for research and collaborations with a wide network of co-investigators, visitors and theorists in the group as well as our partners which are world-leading groups from UK, USA and Germany.
In particular, the aim is to study the effects of interactions on Fermi surface topological transitions theoretically and how these influence physical properties of benchmarked correlated quantum materials and to discover new quantum materials that can be tuned to higher order singularities in the density of states.
Loughborough University is an institution particularly strong in condensed matter theory and novel materials with a vibrant group of more than 12 permanent staff working both in theory and experiments.
The position is for three years and it is intended to start in December 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. Applicants are expected to hold or to have recently submitted a thesis for a PhD in theoretical physics and to be able to demonstrate original independent work, for example through publications. Experience in many-body techniques (mainly analytical) is preferable.
