ECU is located in Greenville, NC (pop. 90,000), which lies ~80 miles east of Raleigh and a short distance to the Atlantic coast. The Department of Biology (www. ecu.edu/biology) is a comprehensive department that emphasizes an integrative approach to the study of life sciences. We offer undergraduate majors in Biology and Biochemistry and graduate opportunities at both the M.S. and Ph.D. levels.
Job DutiesWe are accepting applications for a postdoctoral researcher that will be examining the role that habitat and species life history plays in geographic shifts of marine fish and invertebrates. This project will involve the analysis of existing long-term fisheries survey and environmental data from both the northeast and west U.S. coastal-marine ecosystems. The postdoc will be integrating multiple data sources to model species distribution at different life stages to better understand how life-stage specific habitat requirements, and also connectivity between life stages, might affect the vulnerability of a species to climate change. The postdoc will be housed at the Coastal Studies Institute (https: // www. coastalstudiesinstitute.org/), which is located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, within the
Marine Fisheries Ecology Lab (morleylab.com); for more information contact Jim Morley (morleyj19@ecu.edu). The postdoctoral scholar is responsible for independent and collaborative development, implementation, and analysis of scientific research in the discipline of fisheries biology. Responsibilities include management of all aspects of data analysis, manuscript preparation, and presentation of results to the scientific and management communities. Duties include: hypothesis development, literature review, managing databases, report writing, review of data for quality control, supervision of data analysis, analysis of research hypotheses using statistics, and the development of independent and collaborative presentations and publications. Scholars are expected to demonstrate compliance with established guidelines and regulatory standards for research including biosafety, responsible conduct of research and human subjects training. 100% of the postdoctoral scholar's time will be devoted to management of all aspects of data analysis, manuscript preparation, and presentation of results to the scientific and management communities.
