英国埃克塞特大学2020年招聘博士后(神经生物学)

University of Exeter

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW (LSI)

Job Description

Postdoctoral Research Fellow (LSI)

The College wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in a research project on “ Deconstructing neurobiology of settlement decision- making in coral larvae ” in the laboratory of Professor Gaspar Jekely at the Living Systems Institute. This Human Frontiers Science Program (HFSP) funded post is in collaboration with the group of Professor Mikhail Matz at the University of Texas Austin and is available from the 1st of November 2020 for three years. The successful applicant will study the neuro- molecular mechanisms of settlement decision-making in coral larvae. The project will combine serial electron microscopy, neuroanatomy and behavioural analysis. We will work on the model coral Acroporamillepora , which is a representative of the largest and the most ecologically important genus of reef-building corals.

The post will include the generation of a comprehensive neuronal map (connectome) based on serial electron microscopy and neural circuit reconstruction to elucidate the diversity of neuronal cell types. The successful candidate will also work in close collaboration with the Matz lab in Texas Austin to integrate EM and single-cell RNA sequencing data in order to identify neuron-type-specific marker genes.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to carry out independent experimental research, plan and interpret experiments, develop research objectives, read the relevant scientific literature, write manuscripts and prepare scientific figures and make presentations at conferences and other events.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD in biology. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in electron microscopy of biological specimens and/or neurobiology and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in neuroscience, molecular biology, cell biology and electron microscopy. A specialist knowledge of corals is an advantage but not required.
