POSTDOC IN COMPARATIVE PEDIATRICS AT DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY AND ANIMAL SCIENCES
Copenhagen University
Job Description
We seek to appoint a highly motivated and dynamic researcher for a 2 year post doc position at the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences from 1 January 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The position is expected to cover research in comparative paediatrics with special focus on cellular and molecular pediatrics.
Information on the department can be found at: https: // sund.ku.dk/.
Our research We offer a highly international, diverse and interdisciplinary environment in the Section of Comparative Pediatrics and Nutrition. We perform research and teaching related to physiology, development, nutrition and disease in both farm animals and human infants and children. Our work extends from basic in vitro studies on cells and tissues (gut cell lines, primary blood and immune cells, and tissues with various analytical techniques and omics technologies), over animal model studies (mainly in piglets), to intervention and cohort studies of infants at hospitals (growth, gut, brain, immunity, microbiota). The wide range of methodologies requires interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork among group members with widely different academic backgrounds (from basic biology to veterinary/human medicine).
The current position focus on understanding the mechanisms of disease before and after birth. We will study how prenatal, nutritional and microbial factors influence development of cells and organs in infants, and try to explain why newborns are susceptible to infections and how to improve their health status with interventions. This is done using in vitro cell and ex vivo blood and tissue studies from animals and humans, animal studies and clinical trials together with various analytical techniques (ELISA, qPCR and -omics (transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, epigenomics), to characterize organ development in response to neonatal diseases and treatments.

Essential experience and skills:
You have a PhD degree within Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related area
You are experienced in working with developmental cell biology, using in vivo models of disease

You have experience with handling big data, data analysis and bioinformatics
You have experience with laboratory supervision
You have experience with national/international grant applications
