ASSOCIATE RESEARCH SCIENTIST: the genetic components of aging and aging-related diseases using a functional genomics approach
Columbia University
Posting DetailsJob Requisition Number 00001888
Field(s) of Specialization Molecular biology, bioinformatics Position Title Associate Research Scientist Department OBG OBGYN Division OBGYN Location Summary Description
Suh lab's long-term research goal is to investigate the genetic components of aging and aging-related diseases using a functional genomics approach. By integrating large scale human genetic and epigenomic datasets, Suh lab focuses on the identification of gene sequence variations in candidate genes and the assessment of their potential functional impacts on aging-related phenotypes. Further investigation needs to be done in specific functional tests to any genetic variations found to be significantly associated with one or more defined aging phenotypes by using in silico modeling, as well as in vitro and in vivo studies.
Position summary: The associate research scientist will focus on the functional analysis of the genomic variations in genes involved in genome stability and proteostasis pathways that contribute to aging and longevity in humans. Responsibilities will include analyzing bioinformatics resources, performing cell-based assays, and molecular assays.
Responsibilities: 1. Perform analysis of bioinformatics datasets, including aging-related transcriptome and proteomic datasets, human genetic and functional genomic datasets related to human aging and longevity. 2. Identify gene sequence variations in genes of genome stability and proteostasis pathway related to human aging and longevity. 3. Establish knock-in hESCs lines and their derivations to functional study of gene sequence variations in various human cell types. 4. Perform functional studies of candidate gene sequence variations in cell or mouse models. 5. Establish proteomic methods to study the functions of candidate proteins.
