POSTDOC POSITION IN INORGANIC PHOSPHORS
Chalmers University of Technology
Job Description
Do you want to perform basic research on materials for next-generation energy technologies, using the latest methods at international large-scale photon and neutron sources? Then apply for this exciting postdoc position on inorganic phosphors!
Information about the research/the project/the division Inorganic phosphors play a key role in many optoelectronic devices of high interest for science and society, such as lasers and light emitting diodes. However, the efficiency of present day phosphors is limited by non-radiative vibrational relaxation mechanisms, which hinder the application of many materials in real devices.
The development of new, more efficient inorganic phosphors depends on a better understanding of the underlying mechanisms causing this unwanted behavior. The aim of this postdoc project is to provide a crucial contribution to this important problem by unlocking new fundamental understanding of the coupling between local structure and dynamics and non-radiative relaxation mechanisms. Special emphasis is laid on the investigation of local structural properties, using a combination of steady-state structural probes as well as time-resolved spectroscopy and diffraction.
The acquired new knowledge will be used as feedback into materials synthesis programs targeted at developing new inorganic phosphors with better optical performance. The work will be conducted in collaboration with other research groups, at Chalmers and in other countries, as well as with a Swedish company that is interested in exploiting our materials in some of their products. As part of the responsibilities, the postdoc will, apart from his/her own research, be collaborating with several researchers in this and neighboring subject areas.
Major responsibilities Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position is meritorious for you who seeks future research duties within academia as well as in industry/the public sector.
Position summary Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).
Qualifications For you to qualify for the position, you must have completed a PhD in Experimental Materials Science, or a related discipline, at the time of appointment. The degree shouldn´t be older than three years.
We are looking for a person with experience from fundamental research on inorganic phosphors. Experience in standard optical techniques, such as photoluminescence spectroscopy and/or thermoluminescence spectroscopy is a must, while experience of time-resolved (pump and probe) techniques, and/or in the synthesis of novel inorganic phosphors is an asset.
Furthermore, we are looking for you who are highly motivated and independent. We also see that you have great analytical, social, and communicational skills. Highest standards of research ethics are a must for this position.
You´re also comfortable to write and speak in English. With this set, we offer unique opportunities for top notch basic research pertaining to technologically important materials and career development.
Swedish is not a requirement but if you have an interest in learning Swedish, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.
