美国劳伦斯伯克利国家实验室2020年招聘博士后职位(生物分子纳米材料方向)

Biomolecular Nanomaterials Scientist – 91444

Organization: MF-Molecular Foundry

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has an exciting opportunity for a Staff Scientist to work jointly at the Molecular Foundry and the Joint Genome Institute, both of which are Department of Energy National User Facilities that serve a broad and diverse scientific community. This is a full Principal Investigator position with an expectation to spend equal time divided between user support and running a thriving, original research program that utilizes the advanced scientific capabilities at both User Facilities. This is an opportunity to join a diverse and vibrant research community dedicated to cutting-edge science in a collaborative, inclusive environment. Berkeley Lab strongly supports a team-science environment, and the position will work with a diverse group of scientists and technical staff across multiple disciplines.

The Molecular Foundry is a multidisciplinary research center at the forefront of nanoscale science, and the Joint Genome Institute is a leading integrative genomics science center specializing in high-throughput advanced genomics technologies. Both are knowledge-based user facilities that provide state-of-the-art expertise and instrumentation to an international community of scientists and engineers. Working in the Biological Nanostructures Facility within the Molecular Foundry and at the Joint Genome Institute, you will be able to establish a world-class research program taking advantage of both collaborative, interdisciplinary facilities, which will attract a large user community.

The candidate should have a demonstrated record of accomplishments in synthetic or structural biology, protein engineering, DNA synthesis-enabled bioengineering, or in other areas of designing, synthesizing, or characterizing bio-nanomaterials based on approaches informed by synthetic biology and genomics. These may include development of state-of-the-art design strategies and tools, and laboratory methods for synthetic biology and materials science technologies. The candidate is expected to collaborate with scientists across the Energy Sciences and BioSciences Areas at Berkeley Lab and to provide leadership and help inform the strategic vision of the facilities as related to the DOE mission areas. The position will report administratively to the Biological Facility Director (FD) in the Molecular Foundry and functionally to both the FD in the Molecular Foundry and the Joint Genome Institute Director.

What You Will Do:

◦Design and lead a robust individual research program related to biological nanostructures, complementing current capabilities and expertise at the Molecular Foundry and the Joint Genome Institute. Research areas include but are not limited to: development of new classes of biological nanomaterials with associated characterization methods for biological nanostructures, and/or development of new approaches in genome/host engineering and synthetic biology for design, synthesis and characterization of new nanomaterials

◦Develop a thriving multidisciplinary user program through the development of unique expertise and capabilities, and use these to recruit an active user community

◦Establish effective and productive collaborations with scientific staff at both the Molecular Foundry and Joint Genome Institute, within other divisions at Berkeley Lab,including the Advanced Light Source and the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center, and outside Berkeley Lab

◦Supervise, mentor and coach scientific and technical staff as appropriate

◦Maintain a safe working environment and demonstrate respect for environmental protection, health and safety, and help instill that respect in users and other staff

◦Publish and present at seminars and scientific meetings

◦Share in user-related operations, maintenance, administrative responsibilities at the Molecular Foundry and the Joint Genome Institute

◦Foster a diverse, welcoming and inclusive workplace

What is Required:

◦Ph.D. in molecular biology, microbiology, chemistry, biophysics, biotechnology, biochemistry or related scientific or technical field, or equivalent experience

◦Three years of relevant postdoctoral experience or equivalent experience

◦Demonstrated expertise in synthetic, engineering, and analytical tools and approaches related to biology

◦Demonstrated ability to work independently and prepare research data, trends and information for presentations within the Foundry and the JGI

◦Demonstrated ability to safely conduct and perform individual and collaborative research and effectively interact with a broad/diverse range of colleagues

◦Effective problem-solving, decision-making, organizational and analytical skills

Desired Qualifications:

◦Experience in supervision or management of research staff

◦Demonstrated leadership in independent research and established track record as judged by publication record, talks, fellowships/grants, prizes or awards

To be fully considered please provide the following materials in your application:

◦Cover Letter

◦Curriculum Vitae – Your most recently updated C.V.

◦Statement of Research – Statement addressing past and/or potential contributions to the scientific mission of the Molecular Foundry and the Joint Genome Institute, as articulated in our strategic plans here (Molecular Foundry, https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gpcALEPE3jwlWpJy5FPT7JTFLancn8sd/view) and here (Joint Genome Institute, https://jgi.doe.gov/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/2019_JGI-Strategic-Plan.pdf) (3 page limit)

◦Statement of User Support – Statement addressing past and/or potential contributions to the institutional mission of the Joint Genome Institute and the Molecular Foundry as U.S. Department of Energy User Facilities (1 page limit)

◦Statement on Contributions to Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion – Statement addressing past and/or potential contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion, in alignment with the DEI mission of Berkeley Lab (https://diversity.lbl.gov/, 1 page limit)

The posting shall remain open until the position is filled, however for full consideration, please apply by close of business on Feb 1, 2021.

Notes:

◦This is a full time position exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay. Employee will be placed at the appropriate career-track (.3) or career (.4) level commensurate with their experience.

◦This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.
