Post-Doctoral position in HIV and SARS-CoV2 immune response and vaccine development

Lentiviral restriction factors, dendritic cell vaccines and new approaches to therapy for SARS-CoV-2

Postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Nathaniel (Ned) Landau (www.landau-lab.org) in the Department of Microbiology at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Our research uses methods in molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology to understand innate and intrinsic immune defenses against infection and how these are counteracted by viruses. We are, in addition, interested to develop new approaches to enhancing the immune response to virus infection and to develop new approaches to antiviral therapy. For this, we are developing methods to engineer dendritic cells and macrophages to stimulate anti-viral T cells that will clear virus infection. The studies are centered on HIV-1 and SARS-CoV-2 and make extensive use mouse model sytems.

Projects available are (i) the use of CRISPR genome-wide library screens to identify novel proteins of the innate immune response that restrict HIV infection (ii) the development of therapeutic lentiviral-based dendritic cell vaccines and (iii) the exploration of new approaches to block SARS-CoV-2 replication through the use of soluble receptors and entry inhbitors. The projects involve CRISPR gene editing technologies, dendritic cell culture, high resolution microscopy, T cell activation assays, viral quantification, flow cytometry and FACS, single cell RNA.seq and humanized mouse models.

The NYU Grossman School of Medicine offers a rich scientific and intellectual environment for collaborative projects and state-of-the-art instrumentation and core facilities. Salaries are above the NIH NRSA Post-doctoral stipend scale and include benefits. Subsidized housing is available.

Requirements. Talented candidates with an interest in the innate and adaptive immune response to viruses, dendritic cell biology and vaccine development with a background in Molecular and Cell Biology research are welcome to apply! Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree and be independent, motivated, ambitious and interested to join an interactive and diverse research group. Previous experience in Virology and Immunology is a plus. Candidates must have excellent communication skills and no more than 3 years of post-doctoral experience.
