爱尔兰都柏林大学生物和环境科学学院博士后职位

012835 - UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1, UCD School of Biology and Environmental Science, Temporary 31 December 2021

UCD School of Biology and Environmental Science, University College Dublin

Applications are invited for a Temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Biology and Environmental Science

Neither the precise distribution nor the population density of the four deer species in Ireland is currently known. This lack of knowledge makes the country unready to face upcoming challenges with deer management, namely costly human-wildlife conflicts, and climate change. So far, no national coordination in the collection of deer data exists. Recent advances with technologies such as smartphone applications or digital deer mapping surveys have not been implemented for Irish deer so far, and our SMARTDEER project aims filling these gaps by introducing tools that will allow national deer monitoring on real time. Using recent advances in species distribution and habitat modelling, the main goal of the SMARTDEER project is to produce the most up-to-date distribution maps of deer species in Ireland that will be accessible to stakeholders to drive land management decisions regarding deer in their respective holding. For the first time, we will adopt an all-island approach. A brief overview of the SMARTDEER project can be found here https://sites.google.com/ucd.ie/smartdeer-ireland/home .

You will join the UCD SMARTDEER team in the final year of a 2-yr project funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. The SMARTDEER team have gathered unique historical data on deer presence and abundance in Ireland, designed and built a smartphone application as well as a web survey application able to gather deer data at the national scale. You will use recent advances with species distribution and habitat modeling to analyse for the first-time deer data at national level. You will model spatial deer data in combination with biotic and abiotic covariates and produce the most-up-to date deer distribution and abundance maps, with the opportunity to predict deer distribution and abundance under climate and land-use change scenarios.

This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.

The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.

In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will also carry out the following duties specific to this project:

- Interact and coordinate with the SMARTDEER research team (PI, co-PIs, and postgrad students) in order to quickly acquire and understand the deer data available for this project

- Define the deer analyses to be undertaken in agreement with the SMARTDEER team and define a clear time schedule that would lead to the analysis of data and the writing of at least one scientific manuscript led by the postdoc to be submitted to an international peer-reviewed journal

- Collaborate with SMARTDEER team in the writing of additional manuscripts led by the other team members.

The postdoc is also expected to liaise with deer stakeholders and share the results of the deer analyses with them

Fixed Salary: 38,631 per annum

Closing date: 17:00hrs (local Irish time) on 3rd December 2020

Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified. Any applications which are still in progress at the closing time of 17:00hrs (Local Irish Time) on the specified closing date will be cancelled automatically by the system. UCD are unable to accept late applications.

UCD do not require assistance from Recruitment Agencies. Any CV's submitted by Recruitment Agencies will be returned.
