Postdoc in Coordinated Cyber-Secure Control of Multiple Power Electronic Converters in Active Distribution Grids and Microgrids
Technical University of Denmark
Description
Apply no later than 1 February 2021 Apply for the job at DTU Electrical Eng by completing the following form.
Would you love to contribute to creating the design for one of the corner stones of the green transition?
DTU Elektro invites applications for a 2-year Postdoc position within the Center for Electric Power and Energy (CEE) at the Department of Electrical Engineering
The position is financed by a larger EUDP project “ACTION: Active front-ends for smart electrical drives”, which is carried out in collaboration with Danfoss Drives, and the Postdoc will be supervised by Professor Tomislav Dragičević.
You will be working on development of smart coordinated control strategies for power electronic converters used in active distribution grids and microgrids. Power electronic converters serve as grid interfaces for renewable energy generators, energy storage systems, electrical vehicles and flexible electronically regulated loads (e.g. fans, compressors, water/heat pumps). To support the green transition, they will need to provide a rich variety of grid services that typically cannot be provided by conventional generators and loads. Examples are adjustable inertia / frequency / reactive power support, unbalance / harmonic compensation, load and grid voltage optimization, grid monitoring and others. To optimize the service provision capacity of a large population of power converters, they need to be properly coordinated. One of the core goals of this project is to create a scalable cloud-based platform for collecting real-time data from distributed power converters and use it for controlling and monitoring their population in cyber-secure fashion. Hired Postdoc shall establish such cloud-based platform and develop a variety of aforementioned value services. The developments will primarily be carried out in the newly established Smart Power Converter lab in the PowerLabDK, located at DTU Lyngby campus.
Qualifications You should hold a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science or a similar degree with equivalent academic level. In addition:
You must have a knowledge about operation, control and cyber-security of power distribution grids, microgrids and power electronic converters.
Relevant background in real-time optimization and basic understanding of machine learning algorithms.
Knowledge about industrial IoT within the research and industrial setting, preferably with practical experience.
Knowledge of programming tools such as Python, C++, MatLab and LabView is considered an advantage.
You must be fluent in English, both speaking and writing and have an excellent record of publications in top-tier international journals.
Assessement The assessment of the applicants will be made by Professor Tomislav Dragičević (DTU Elektro).
We offer DTU is a leading technical university globally, recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility.
At the Center for Electric Power and Energy you will be part of a vibrant, welcoming and diverse environment with an international atmosphere and strong links to the world-leading Danish energy industry. You will join one of top European research centres within the energy field and you will have access to our cutting-edge experimental facilities, PowerLabDK (www. powerlab.dk), which has recently made major investments and established a new Smart Power Converter lab. Working conditions are excellent. The research group you will join is a down-to-earth and fun place to be. Most group members live in Copenhagen, which is often named as the best city in the world to live, and for good reasons. It's world renowned for food, beer, art, music, architecture, the Scandinavian "hygge", and much more. Parental leave is generous and child-care is excellent and cheap.
Salary and appointment terms The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 2 years. Starting date is 1 March 2021, but is negotiable.
Workplace You will be primarily based in DTU Lyngby Campus.
