Applications are invited for a Fixed term post ending on 30th April 2023 of a Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Earth Sciences - iCRAG.

This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of the Principal Investigator, Prof. John Walsh. The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.

he Irish Centre for Research in Applied Geosciences (iCRAG) is currently seeking a Post-Doctoral Researcher to help iCRAG deliver on its research goals. iCRAG brings together a team of researchers representing the full geosciences spectrum with a clear focus on the economic impact of the wider geosciences sector. iCRAG is funded by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) and co funded under the European Regional Development Fund together with industry partners. The Centre is administered in UCD and represents a collaboration between UCD, TCD, NUIG, UCC, DIAS, Teagasc and NUIM, and a variety of domestic and international industry partners.

This is a Post-doctoral research role in which the person will conduct research on the Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) potential of the Celtic Sea basins. It will involve investigation of prospective reservoirs and storage sites in offshore south of Ireland (i.e. North Celtic Sea Basin and immediately adjacent basins) by developing upon iCRAG's analysis and interpretation of Ireland's offshore basins, incorporating all of the existing public domain subsurface geological and geophysical datasets (e.g. seismic and well data). Different types of potential geological stores will be investigated with preliminary assessments of storage volumes and associated risks (e.g. structural, aquifer properties (primary and diagenetic), seal integrity, flow conditions etc.), drawing from state-of-the-art understanding and modelling of subsurface CO2.

Salary Range: 38,631 to 44,657 per annum.

Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
