Position Summary:

The Department of Human Oncology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is seeking applicants for the Bentson Fellowship in Radiation Oncology to commence in the Summer of 2022. This postdoctoral fellowship program enables promising translational cancer researchers to develop the experience, record of success, model systems, funding support, and preliminary data needed to successfully launch an independent research career. Physician-scientists are key drivers of the advances in cancer research that will shape clinical care for future generations. Many radiation oncologists pursue research during residency, but often this body of work is not sufficient to launch an independent research career. For these individuals, the UW Bentson Translational Research Fellowship offers a unique opportunity to pursue the additional research that is needed in order to be competitive for the limited number of physician-scientist faculty positions available across the country each year and for the grant support needed to sustain this career. While the prospect of additional training may not be the first choice of most residency graduates, the competitive guaranteed salary support for Bentson Fellows and the family-friendly, vibrant, and diverse Madison, WI community provide excellent quality of life for our Fellows. Fellows do not have a formal requirement for clinical service but are able to engage in clinic care and develop areas of advanced clinical specialization if desired. Fellows receive a travel/book fund to facilitate participation in training opportunities that may include research meetings, coursework, and workshops.
