Electric Power Engineering in Skellefteå, Sweden, is a successful group at Luleå University of Technology led by Professor Math Bollen and Associate Professor Sarah Rönnberg.

The current research areas for the group are power quality in low, medium and high-voltage networks, integration of renewable electricity production and electric vehicle charging, smart grids and electricity markets. The group has a good national and international reputation for its leading research, is a world leader in power quality, and has a good national reputation for its undergraduate education in electrical networks. The group's research results have received, over the years, attention from both industry and academia.

Electric Power Engineering currently consists of one chaired professor, two more professors, four more senior researchers, three research engineers and 19 doctoral students. The group consists of 16 men and 13 women.

Subject description Electric power engineering covers studies of sustainable systems for production of electrical energy, transport of electrical energy and the interaction between the power grid, electricity production and electricity consumption.

Project description We are recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to set up collaboration with Africa south of the Sahara and at the same time to further develop and broaden our research and education. The research direction should be of high relevance to Africa south of the Sahara, of relevance to Sweden, and fit to our group's research profile.

Examples of suitable research directions are: - electricity supply to mining and mineral processing in a sustainable energy system - integration of small-scale solar power in weak electricity grids

Duties Your primary duties as a postdoctoral researcher are to perform research and education to prepare for future positions within the academy.

Qualifications The qualifying background for applicants is a doctoral degree in Electric Power Engineering or equivalent. Priority is given to candidates who have completed a doctoral degree within three years before the application date. You must be able to express yourself in English, at advanced level, in writing and orally.

You must have proven competence according to the project description, above, or a good plan to develop this based on your previous expertise.

The applicant will set up collaboration in research and education between Luleå University of Technology and universities in Africa south of the Sahara. For this, we expect that you have experience in research and education with both Swedish and African universities.
