The Subramanian group is seeking qualified, highly motivated Postdoctoral candidates with interests in autoimmunity, infectious disease and host-pathogen interactions. Research in the lab encompasses both mouse and human systems. The Subramanian Lab focuses on understanding the mechanisms of innate immunity mediated by Nod-like receptors (NLRs) or inflammasomes and their role in host-pathogen interactions and autoimmunity. The successful applicant will participate in new projects involving mouse models of respiratory viral infections and autoimmune type 1 diabetes, so prior experience in these areas is desired. The position requires hands on knowledge of mouse handling, tissue sectioning, immunostaining of tissues, confocal microscopy, flowcytometry, cell culture techniques, general molecular biology techniques (e.g. DNA and RNA extraction, cloning, qPCR, gene editing), protein analysis (e.g. gel electrophoresis and immunoblotting), ELISA and data analysis. Expertise in high-throughput transcriptional profiling techniques (e.g. RNA-Seq), bioinformatics and big data analysis is a plus. An important aspect will include combining information from multiple levels such as genes, proteins and in vivo studies to gain a multi-scale understanding of NLR function. Significant opportunities exist for collaboration with a diverse team of computational biologists and software engineers on experimental design, analysis and biological discovery.
The ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual with significant experience in immunology, molecular biology and data analysis, together with a deep knowledge of biology. The successful candidate is expected to carry out and publish cutting edge original research based on the current themes of the lab, and to contribute to promoting a successful research environment. A recognized record of accomplishment as evidenced by scholarly publications in the field of immunology is required. Candidates must have a recent or anticipated Ph.D., or M.D./Ph.D. degree and excellent interpersonal skills conducive to working independently as well as in a team. ISB offers a scientifically rich, interdisciplinary environment at the interface of immunology and systems biology. We are located in the vibrant South Lake Union neighborhood of Seattle, actively engaged with a scientific community encompassing the University of Washington, Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center, Seattle Children’s Research Institute and Benaroya Research Institute.
