The Department of Economics belongs to the School of Business, Economics and Law at University of Gothenburg and the department has around 100 employees from several countries. The teaching within the department is economics and statistics and the department has around 800 students registered at courses and programs. A diversity of researcher are located at the department where several of them are internationally well known economists. The research conducted is within a broad range of areas, including labor, environmental, development, behavioral, and financial economics. Health economics and global health.

Subject area description

Health economics is a branch of economics that studies issues related to the efficiency, effectiveness, value and behavior in the production and consumption of health and healthcare. Global health is an area of study of a wide range of health issues in a global perspective.

Job assignments

The main job assignment consists of empirical research on: (i) the connections between health financing and health outcomes; and (ii) patient behavior related to neonatal health. The focus of this research is on low and middle-income countries. Some teaching and supervision related to health economics will also be part of the job assignments.

Qualifications

To qualify as a postdoctoral researcher the applicant should hold a PhD in a relevant subject. Since postdoctoral constitutes a qualifying appointment for junior researchers, we aim to target those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years from the application deadline. The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's appointments procedure.

We are looking for a person who has some experience of empirical analysis related to the research areas listed under Job assignments above. Previous published work on healthcare in low and middle-income countries is highly meritorious; at least two publications in reputable international economics or health economics research journals is a requirement. Good knowledge of experimental and quasi-experimental research designs is highly meritorious. Previous experience organising primary data collection and enumerator training in low income countries is highly meritorious. Previous experience relevant for the job assignments from work in low- or middle-income countries is meritorious.

Personal suitability is of importance for the appointment of employment. For the position, it is important with ability to co-operate. You should be able to work independently as well as in a team.

Qualified is the person who masters English in speech and writing.

Employment

The employment is a temporary employment during two years with an extent of 100% of full time, located at the Department of Economics. Starting date is September 1st, or upon agreement.
