加拿大英属哥伦比亚大学2021年招聘博士后职位(免疫细胞信号数学分析)

The University of British Columbia

Postdoctoral position in math/immunology/cell biology

Description

A joint postdoctoral position with Dr. Mike Gold (Dept. of Microbiology & Immunology) and Dr. Dan Coombs (Dept. of Mathematics) is available for a PhD with an interest in developing their own projects related to the mathematical analysis of immune cell signaling. Our current joint projects focus on the nanoscale spatial organization and lateral mobility of the B cell receptor and other membrane proteins that control B cell activation. We seek to understand how receptor organization and signaling output is controlled by cytoskeleton dynamics, membrane domains, and receptor crosstalk. For an overview of our previous work, see publications from the Coombs group (https://scholar.google.ca/citations?user=Ji9E9MQAAAAJ&hl=en) and Gold lab (https://scholar.google.ca/citations?user=96zjvmEAAAAJ&hl=en).

Individuals with a strong background in biophysics or cell biology, as well as microscopy, and quantitative image analysis, are encouraged to apply. Wet-lab work will be carried out in the UBC Life Sciences Institute (LSI) (http://www.lsi.ubc.ca), which houses 85 laboratories carrying out cell and molecular biology research in a highly collaborative setting. Excellent facilities for super-resolution microscopy, single-particle tracking, and real-time imaging are available in the LSI, along with access to advanced facilities for genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, animal models, bioinformatics, and advanced computing. The successful applicant will also be a member of the mathematical biology group at UBC (https://www.math.ubc.ca/research/research-topics/mathematical-biology), one of Canada’s largest and most established math biology groups, as well as the UBC Institute of Applied Mathematics (https://www.iam.ubc.ca).

We provide a supportive and highly interactive environment with strong mentoring as well as opportunities for intellectual and professional growth, innovation, project leadership, and collaboration. The position is fully funded for two years, with the possibility of renewal thereafter. The applicant should have the ability to work effectively and independently, develop research projects and mentor others, and should possess strong verbal and written communication skills.

Application

To apply, please e-mail a CV, a brief cover letter that includes a paragraph describing how your research interests fit with the position, and contact information for 2-3 references to mgold@mail.ubc.ca or coombs@math.ubc.ca.

This posting is for the UBC Vancouver campus in British Columbia, Canada.

Please refer to reference number NC-55190 during correspondence about this position. Please visit the researcher profiles of the supervisors (1, 2) for this position to learn more about their research.
