美国布鲁克海文国家实验室2021年招聘博士后研究助理(合成光化学方向)
Postdoctoral Research Associate Synthetic Photochemistry Upton, NY
Brookhaven National Laboratory
Description
Postdoctoral Research Associate Synthetic Photochemistry
Job ID 2584 Date posted 08/03/2021
Brookhaven National Laboratory (www. bnl.gov) delivers discovery science and transformative technology to power and secure the nation's future. Brookhaven Lab is a multidisciplinary laboratory with seven Nobel Prize-winning discoveries, 37 R&D 100 Awards, and more than 70 years of pioneering research. The Lab is primarily supported by the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Science. Brookhaven Science Associates (BSA) operates and manages the Laboratory for DOE. BSA is a partnership between Battelle and The Research Foundation for the State University of New York on behalf of Stony Brook University.
Organizational Overview
The Chemistry Division conducts basic and applied chemical research with an emphasis on new energy conversion pathways. Primary research subjects include catalysis and electrocatalysis for sustainable fuel synthesis and use, solar energy conversion to fuels, condensed phase molecular dynamics and radiation chemistry, electrochemical energy storage, and chemistry in extreme environments.
Bioinspired light-escalated chemistry (BioLEC) is an Energy Frontiers Research Center (EFRC) led by Princeton University and sponsored by the Department of Energy (DOE) (https:// chemlabs.princeton.edu/biolec/). The goal of BioLEC is to establish bio-inspired methods for directing difficult chemical transformations for energy-relevant chemicals.
The Electron- and Photo-Induced Processes (EPIP) Group at BNL contribute to BioLEC with our expertise in pulse radiolysis and electron transfer theory. Pulse radiolysis is a powerful technique that can create reactive intermediates that help to elucidate photocatalytic mechanisms and inform new reaction pathways that are beyond the scope of conventional photocatalysis.
Position Description
The Chemistry Division has an opening for a postdoctoral research associate in the Electron and Photon Induced Processes Group. The successful candidate will perform pulse radiolysis experiments using the 10 MeV Laser Electron Accelerator Facility (LEAF) in the Chemistry Division. These experiments span many collaborative projects across the BioLEC EFRC. The research includes understanding mechanisms in photocatalytic cycles, investigating chemistry that can be performed with super-reductants and super-oxidants and measuring redox and spectroscopic properties of short-lived intermediates. The work will be under supervision of Dr. Matthew Bird.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Performing pulse radiolysis experiments • Managing multiple collaborative projects • Writing papers and presenting work at research meetings and conferences
Position Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
PhD in physical organic, organometallic or synthetic organic chemistry with experience in reaction mechanism elucidation.
Experience in the field of catalysis or photocatalysis
Excellent communication skills to coordinate regularly with other members of the BioLEC team.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Prior experience with transient absorption spectroscopy techniques and/or electrochemistry.
Other Information:
BNL policy requires that research associate appointments be made to individuals who have received their doctorate within the past 5 years.
