About the position

We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to take on the role of project manager for a 2-year research project funded by the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation (VicHealth) titled: ‘Increasing physical activity among young adults with disability'.

This project comprises two ‘streams'. Stream 1 will explore how social support can be utilised in gym settings to enable physical activity participation. Stream 2 will assess cost barriers to access and utilisation of gym facilities among young adults with disability. The research methods to be used in this project are: a scoping review, a state-wide survey of current practices, qualitative interviews with young people with disability and gym staff, focus groups with stakeholders and a discrete choice experiment.

An experienced project manager is sought to take day to day responsibility for the conduct of the project.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have:

Undergraduate degree in physiotherapy, or another health discipline

Experience in research and/or project management in a university, health care or community organisation setting

High level organisational skills including effective time and workload management, advanced problem-solving skills, and an ability to work independently and to exercise initiative

Excellent data management skills, including database development; data collection; ability to consolidate and present data effectively

Superior interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills including the ability to establish and maintain effective, productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders

Evidence of the ability to work as a member of a team in a co-operative and collegial manner

Desirable

Postgraduate research training (e.g. Masters or PhD)

Experience working with people with disability

Experience and/or skills in qualitative and quantitative research methods and analysis

A research track record of publications, conference presentations, and/or other professional contributions
