Vacancy Overview
Full-time, Fixed-term for up to 24 months We encourage flexible and/or hybrid working patterns Start Date - 1 January 2022
We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the research group of Dr Gabriele Sosso (https: // sossogroup.uk and @SossoGroup) to work on a BBSRC-funded project titled:
“Understanding Ice Formation in Plants: finding new routes to freezing tolerance”
This is an ambitious, high-impact computational project that will develop in a synergistic fashion with our experimental collaborators, Dr Heather Knight and Dr Tim Hawking (University of Durham). Details are available at https: // sossogroup.uk/understanding-ice-formation-in-plants-postdoc-position- now-available/. In short, the research involves using (atomistic) classical molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the formation of ice through the plants cell wall. In particular, we seek to assess the impact of the extent of the cross-linking within the building blocks of the cell wall on the kinetics of ice growth. Enhanced sampling techniques as well as coarse-grained approaches might also be involved at the later stages of the project. This is a unique opportunity to work at boundaries between physical chemistry and biology, in a research group with a very prominent profile in the ice community and guided by the outstanding support of our experimental collaborators.
Informal enquiries are welcome and should be directed to Dr Gabriele Sosso at: g.sosso@warwick.ac.uk.
If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant on level 5 of the University grade structure (£30,046). Upon successful award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of the level 6 of the University grade structure (£30,942).
What we offer
We will provide you with a great range of benefits, which include an attractive pension scheme, 30 days' holiday plus Christmas closure, excellent learning and development opportunities, and savings on a wide range of products and services. We offer a generous maternity / paternity / adoption / parental leave policy as well as onsite childcare facilities. We recognise the importance of a healthy work/life balance and offer you access to flexible and/or hybrid working. For more information visit our Rewards and Benefits webpage. We also have an excellent relocation package; to assess whether you may be entitled, please see details on the following page: https: // warwick.ac.uk/services/humanresources/vacancies/relocation/.
