Research Fellow Or Senior Research Fellow (Innovation In Lithium-Ion Battery Material And Device Manufacture) (104075-0821) . Job Reference: 1878557

University Of Warwick

Description

Vacancy Type/Job category

Academic

Department

WMG

Salary £41,526 - £49,553 per annum

Location

University of Warwick - Coventry

Vacancy Overview

Fixed Term Contract - July 2022 36.5 hours per week

Do you have interests in battery material and device manufacture? Do you have experience in lithium-ion technologies (e.g. lithium-ion batteries, lithium-ion capacitors, solid-state devices)? Are you ready to join a leading group with world-class state-of-the-art battery facilities?

We are looking for a person with experience in lithium-ion technologies, who would like to apply the experience and learn about the industrialisation aspects of lithium-ion battery.

Working in WMG Energy Innovation centre, you will lead the delivery of research work with our industrial partners and university collaborators. You will investigate innovation in lithium-ion battery material and device manufacture, specifically pursuing a competitive position for the next stage of industrialisation development. R&D themes crosscut existing technologies in lithium-ion batteries to solid-state devices and very high-power lithium-ion capacitors.

Specific responsibilities: • Investigate lithium-ion technologies (LIB, LIC, solid-state). • Develop manufacture activities (electrodes, cells). • Quantify performance features (electrochemical, physical, material). • Write and publish peer-reviewed publications (at least 1) • Interact with internal teams and external industry partners.

Underpinning all investigations will be the creation of new knowledge on battery material and process improvement, specifically needed to move the technology a step close for industry deployment across the value chain in electrification.

The post will equip you well for leading roles in industry and academia. You will be highly trained and gain new knowledge in industrial datasets for R&D, plus the commercialisation aspects of breakthrough technology innovation.

To qualify for consideration at Senior Research Fellow level, you will need to demonstrate experience and a capability in:

• Leading and designing research projects • Writing successful bids for external funding • Writing for high impact academic journals or a strong track record in the field

In return, you will have full access to multi-millions pound battery facilities in WMG Energy Innovation Centre, the UK state-of-the-art learning and discovery platform, open-access to industry and university collaborators.. Core activities cover materials, manufacturing, characterisation and testing verification of battery electrodes, cells, modules and packs. The facility supports test, development and scale-up of battery chemistries from concept to commercially viable devices for industrial evaluation.

At WMG we are committed to supporting staff to achieve their potential. We currently hold the Athena SWAN Silver Award, in line with University of Warwick's Institutional Silver Award: a national initiative that recognises the advancement of gender equality, representation, progression and success for all in academia. We are supportive of staff with caring responsibilities including a generous maternity/paternity/adoption/parental leave policy, and onsite childcare facilities. We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so.

If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant on level 5 of the University grade structure (£30,046). Upon successful award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of the level 6 of the University grade structure (£30,942).

Interview Date - TBC
