Postdoctoral Researcher Translational Oncology

The Unit for Translational Research in Oncology, headed by Prof. Steven Goossens, has a full-time vacancy for highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to join our international team.

The applicant should be highly motivated and passionate about research with a strong interest in drug discovery and development. It is expected that the successful candidate individually designs, implements, and evaluates experimental results. You will be responsible for designing novel tools and technologies to identify, validate and optimize small molecules compounds to target transcription factors in acute leukemia. The research will be performed as part of a multidisciplinary consortium (TaTFAL) including experts in molecular biology, medicinal chemistry, structural biology and with strong interaction with industrial partners and clinicians.

About the Lab

The lab has ample expertise in genetic engineering, development of high throughput screening assays, generation of in vitro and in vivo cancer models to evaluate novel therapeutic strategies to combat aggressive subtypes of cancer. Our laboratory is fully equipped for molecular, cellular in vitro and in vivo work and we have access to all state of the art departmental and institutional core facilities including high end imaging, flow cytometry, proteomics, RNA Seq and high throughput genetic analysis, single cell analysis platforms, SPF animal facility and in vivo imaging.

YOUR TASKS

•At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research.

•Responsible for designing novel tools and technologies to identify, validate and optimize small molecules compounds to target transcription factors in acute leukemia.

•Taking the lead in writing, finalizing, submitting, and revising publications of which you are a co-author.

•Contribute to the daily supervision and guidance of Master level students (Biomedical Sciences or equivalent) and PhD students in the research group.

•A limited amount of your time will be spent on project management such as project reporting, setting up and organizing project meetings with internal and external partners.

•Generally, contribute to a positive, enjoyable, and productive working environment.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

•You hold a thesis-based doctorate in Cell Biology/Biochemistry/Molecular Biology/ Biotechnology/Medicinal Chemistry or equivalent (obtained max. 6 years ago. This term of 6 years is determined by the date written on the above-mentioned required diploma) with minimal 3 years of prior research experience in the fields of translational oncology and/or leukemia research.

•You are highly motivated and passionate about research with a strong interest in drug discovery and development.

•You have hands-on experience with in vitro and in vivo cancer models, transgenic animal models (mice), cell culture and other standard molecular biology technologies including flow cytometry. Experience with lead compound optimization and therapy efficacy studies is an advantage.

•You have an excellent track record of first author and other publications in high-ranking peer-reviewed journals.

•You have strong work ethics

•You have good oral and written communication skills in English (C1 level).

•You are team player with a strong sense of autonomy, responsibility and initiative.

•You have the necessary CV and willingness to apply for a junior or senior postdoc fellowships with the FWO (https://www.fwo.be/en/fellowships-funding/postdoctoral-fellowships/, or other international fellowships.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

•We offer you a contract of indefinite duration with a maximum term of 4 years

• our contract will start on 1/10/2021 at the earliest.
