The Department of Culture and Society is devoted to education and research within the humanities, arts and social sciences. Our work is often pursued in inter- and multidisciplinary environments where language, culture and society are in focus. As a department we aspire to strengthen the position of the humanities and social sciences in society, and we view collaboration between education, research and the world around us as a prerequisite for success. The department is based in both Linköping and Norrköping.
Duties The postdoctoral fellow will work within ASC's research programme ‘EIWO - Exclusion and Inequality in Late Working Life: Evidence for Policy Innovation Towards Inclusive Extended Work and Sustainable Working Conditions in Sweden and Europe' (www. eiwoproject.org) and focusses on life-course oriented comparative economic and sociological research on working life, life-course policies, life-long learning, ageing and social exclusion. It is conducted in close cooperation within an international consortium of partners from four European countries – United Kingdom, Germany, Poland and Sweden. The postdoctoral fellow will primarily conduct research and may carry out teaching limited to a fifth of working time.
Qualifications The position requires a Ph.D. or an equivalent degree in Economics, Sociology, Ageing Research, Statistics, or related disciplines. The doctorate shall have been obtained no longer than three years before the starting date of the employment.
A successful candidate should have a high interest and documented experiences in the research area of the EIWO programme. A successful candidate should have a specific interest in issues of (late) working life, labour market, life- long learning, life-course policies, social exclusion, inequality, social change, life-course and ageing to carry out research in this area.
A successful candidate should have very good knowledge in quantitative methodology and analysis tools as well as in statistics in general. Key competences and experiences include very good knowledge in longitudinal and multi-level analysis with registry data and international comparative survey data from various sources, as well as analysis design and data processing. Excellent expertise concerning analysis software such as SPSS or STATA is crucial; experience with Mplus and proper knowledge of complex statistical analysis methods and modelling are a significant bonus.
Very good knowledge of English, both verbal and written, as well as the ability to work well in dialogue with others is expected. The ambition and ability to work in an international consortium is especially meriting.
It is expected that a successful candidate will contribute to the discussion of research and analytical concepts to improve quality of the divisions' scientific output in the further development of ASC.
Appointment time A Postdoc is appointed until further notice, but for no longer than two years. The appointment can be renewed if there are special reasons.
Starting date By agreement, preferably as soon as possible.
Salary The University applies individual salary scales adapted to the experience of the employee and to the labour market.
