Job description

CAF metabolism in high grade serous ovarian cancer

Prof Sara Zanivan

The CRUK Beatson Institute is a cancer research institute, situated in Glasgow with approximately 250 researchers split across 30 research groups consisting of PIs, postdoctoral scientists, PhD students and scientific officers. It is one of Europe's leading cancer research centres, supporting cutting-edge work into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. As well as core support from Cancer Research UK, the Institute also receives an additional third of its total income from external grants and industry collaborations. It has an excellent reputation for fundamental cancer research, including world-class metabolism studies and renowned in vivo modelling of tumour growth and metastasis. Its research ethos is about excellence, honesty, openness, accountability, and integrity.

A postdoctoral position is available in the Tumour Microenvironment & Proteomics group headed by Professor Sara Zanivan. The group is a vibrant team, which aims to understand how cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) influence breast and ovarian cancer development and metastatic spread. We are currently looking for a highly skilled and motivated postdoc to join our multidisciplinary team to study CAF metabolism in high grade serous ovarian cancer (https: // www. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.05.30.125237v2.full).

This post will study how CAF metabolism influences the formation of a tumour microenvironment permissive for ovarian cancer growth and development. To achieve that, we will use heterotypic cell cultures, state-of-the-art metabolomics and proteomics technologies, and genetically modified in vivo models.

Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field, be ambitious and driven by scientific curiosity. Previous experience with regard to cell metabolism is highly recommended, and experience or interest in CAFs, in vivo cancer models and omics data analysis would be an advantage.

To find out more about this unique opportunity to establish advanced skills and expertise in this exciting field please contact: Professor Sara Zanivan sara.zanivan@glasgow.ac.uk

The Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute is committed to increase the number of female scientists at this level and encourages female applicants to apply. We have recently introduced a highly attractive maternity policy which provides 12-18 months support and funding for postdocs wishing to take time off to spend with their children.

All applications must be made via our website at https:// www. beatson.gla.ac.uk/careers/postdoctoral-fellows/.

Closing date for applications is 10 October 2021
