The Opportunity

The School of Philosophical, Historical and International Studies (SOPHIS) is home to six academic programs, including the History program, which enjoys an outstanding national and international reputation. The School is currently recruiting for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in History to join their team to undertake primary research on a number of case studies.

Working alongside Professor Christina Twomey, the Postdoctoral Research Fellow will contribute to a larger project and publish collaboratively with team members, present research papers at conferences, contribute to the public dissemination of research results, and undertake other administrative tasks related to the project.

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

The conduct of research either as a member of a team or independently and the production of conference and seminar papers and publications from that research

Supervision of research-support staff involved in the staff member's research and guidance in the research effort of junior members of research-only Academic staff in the field

Contribution to the preparation or, where appropriate, individual preparation of research proposal submissions to external funding bodies

Administrative functions primarily connected with their area of research

Occasional contributions to the teaching program within the field of the staff member's research

Co-supervision or, where appropriate, supervision of major honours or postgraduate research projects within the field of the staff member's area of research

The successful applicant will have a doctoral qualification in History and demonstrated archival research skills, especially in the records of federal/national and colonial governments and their agencies, and in library manuscript collections. A solid record of refereed research publications as well as demonstrated skills in data management, including use of reference management software and Excel. The role would suit a person with expertise in environmental history, imperial/colonial history, Indian and Pacific Ocean histories, or Australian history.

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
