丹麦罗斯基勒大学2021年招聘博士后职位(化学)
丹麦罗斯基勒大学2021年招聘博士后职位(化学)
Roskilde University (RUC)
The Department of Science and Environment (DSE), Roskilde University, invites applications for a position as a postdoc in Chemistry from March 1st, 2022, or soon thereafter. The position is for a period of two years.
Description of the project
The Peptoid Nanosheets project is funded by the VILLUM Foundation for the period 2022-2024 with Assoc. Professor Biljana Mojsoska as Principal Investigator. The aim of this research project is to further the understanding of the fundamental governing principles of peptoid nanosheet formation, in particular regarding investigation and development of functional nanosheets. Developments in this research area enable high impacts in the field of nanotechnology, especially for the synthesis of novel rigid structures with potential diverse biological properties. The post doc position will be part of the above project and anchored in a highly interdisciplinary work environment at the Chemistry group at the department.
We are looking for a talented and highly motivated postdoc candidate for interdisciplinary research activities building on competences within organic and surface chemistry. The postdoc will be working with the experimental methods available at the Chemistry section and the Center for Frustrated Molecular Interactions (FRUSTMI) with Assoc. Professor Biljana Mojsoska.
You will become part of a research group where we care for each other and collaborate actively on a daily basis. Roskilde University is located close to Copenhagen with good train connections (30 min. from CPH central station). Copenhagen is ranked as one of the world’s most liveable cities. We offer freedom with responsibility, flexible office hours, and an informal and curiosity driven research team.
The focus of the experimental work of the group is on:
•Design and synthesis of long chains of peptide mimetics for nanosheet formation.
•Assessment of novel nanomaterials using different techniques available at RUC and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories in Berkeley, California.
•Nanosheets effect on biological pathogens (e.g. bacteria, viruses etc.)
•A close interaction and collaboration between theory and experiment, catalyzed by weekly 2-hour joint group meetings.
The presently available experimental methods include solid-phase peptide synthesis instruments, AKTA purification systems, high performance liquid-chromatography mass-spectrometry instrumentation, atomic force microscopy, confocal fluorescence microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, vial-rocker for nanosheet formation and diversity of bioactivity validation assays.
Responsibilities and tasks
Your main task will be to conduct research related to the field of organic and surface chemistry for synthesis and formation of novel nanomaterials as well as dissecting their biological potentials. In addition, a certain amount of
teaching is also required. You will be part of the scientific staff and are as such expected to participate in departmental and group-related activities.
Qualifications.
The following qualifications are required
•A Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or a related field (Surface engineering, Synthetic Organic Chemistry or Surface Chemistry (Bio-nanomaterials))
•Solid experimental experience with organic synthesis and surface chemistry with a focus on the following techniques: •Solid-phase peptide synthesis, experience with peptoid synthesis is appreciated,
•Atomic force microscopy,
•Excellent written and oral English language communication skills
•Highly organized with strong attention to details and a focus on quality results
•Strong record of peer-reviewed publications
Knowledge of the following techniques will be an advantage.
•X-ray diffraction dissociation
•FTIR
•Zeta-potential
We are looking for an ambitious, curious, and open-minded person that can work effectively in a team environment. You are expected to possess good communication skills and to be a visible, involved participant in the department’s daily activities.
Assessment
In the formal assessment, regarding qualifications consideration will be given to:
•quality and relevance of scientific work
•documented degree to match with the technical and soft skills listed under “Qualifications” above
•knowledge and enthusiasm about the research project (Cover letter),
•ability to promote and utilize research results,
•ability and willingness to contribute to the development of the department’s internal and external cooperation
About the department
Department of Science and Environment is one of four departments at Roskilde University. The Department conducts basic and applied research within mathematics, medical biology, physics, molecular biology, environmental sciences, and chemistry. Bachelor and Master programs are offered within these areas. Research and education within the fields takes place in a collaborative and interdisciplinary university environment also spanning collaboration with the other departments covering social sciences and humanities where relevant. The department is organised in four Sections comprising the research and education activities.
About the Chemistry section
The Chemistry group conducts basic and applied research and teaches a range of topics, from the fundamental to the specialized, based around these activities. Some prioritized research themes of the group include the construction and characterization of natural and medicinal compounds (natural products, peptides, bioactive compounds and biomacromolecules), enzymatic and chemical catalysis, metabolomics and proteomics, sustainable organic synthesis reaction pathways, and drug stability and delivery systems. The department’s chemistry and biology laboratories are situated in a new building, acquired in 2016, equipped with modern infra-structure and state-of-the-art instrumentation. This includes recently acquired NMR, mass spectrometry (LC- and GC-MS, including high resolution measurements and proteomics), and microscopy (new AFM and confocal) instruments, together with Intavis solid-phase peptide synthesizer (SPPS), calorimetry (ITC and DSC), chromatography (HPLC), and scattering (DLS, SAXS).
Questions
For further information, you are welcome to contact Associate Professor Biljana Mojsoska on tel. +45 46743645 or email (biljana@ruc.dk).
Terms of employment
The employment is full time (37 hours per week, formally). Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). You will refer to Head of Department, Susanne Sørensen.
The position will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.
Application procedure
