Fibre and Particle Engineering Research Unit (https:// www. oulu.fi/pyokuien/) carries out research in the field of advanced inorganic materials in circular economy. The multicultural research group consists of 50 people: 3 professors, 15 doctors and 24 doctoral students. We have an open and encouraging working atmosphere and have a substantial track record in attracting competitive funding including Horizon 2020 EU and the Academy of Finland programmes.

We are looking for a talented, innovative, and driven

Postdoctoral Researcher.

Work description

The position is for 2 years. Your research will concentrate on developing advanced cement-like materials, focusing on chemical reactions, microstructure, and material properties. Your task will be to carry out multidisciplinary research with state-of-the art methods, including laboratory work, inorganic material analyses, and potentially also computer modelling. Cement is one of the biggest polluters and responsible for 8 % of all anthropogenic CO2 emissions. At the same time, cement offers an optimal carbon capture and storage (CCU) opportunity due to massive volumes and favorable chemistry.

You will carry out research work within a research team, publish research results in leading international scientific journals, take part in funding acquisition, contribute to teaching and supervision. In addition, the postdoctoral researcher may participate in administrative tasks of the research unit. You will work on research in university`s strategic research profile area called Inorganic Side Streams (InStreams).

What we expect

We are looking for a team player with solid research skills

You must have a doctoral degree in engineering, materials science, chemistry, physical chemistry or in a closely related field. Please note that, your degree should be obtained within the last 10 years, latest by the start of the employment.

We expect you to have knowledge in laboratory and material analysis technique(s)

You should have good communication skills in both written and spoken English

Scientific publications, thesis supervision, activity in the scientific community and practical familiarity with the field in question will be used as selection criteria.

2-year position, starting as soon as possible or as agreed. A six-month trial period will be applied to the position.

The salary is in accordance with the university salary system (for teaching and research personnel, level 5 – 6). The typical salary for a starting postdoctoral researcher is 3,400 per month.
