Senior Statistical Computational Bioscientist

Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics, Old Road Campus, Roosevelt Drive, Oxford, OX3 7BN Grade 8: Salary in range £42,149 - £50,296 per annum

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Statistical Computational Bio- scientist to join the research groups of Professor John Todd (Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics) and Dr. Yang Luo (group leader in the Kennedy Institute for Rheumatology). Our research is broadly focused on the genetics of type 1 diabetes, autoinflammatory conditions and the human leukocyte antigen, including interactions with the intestinal microbiome. We undertake a wide range of human genetic and functional genomic statistical approaches.

You will be responsible for planning new projects which contribute to the overall aims of studies and clinical trials. You will develop novel methodologies for analysis and data collection in collaboration with members of the research team. Develop or tailor analytical tools and resources appropriate to the work. Identify and troubleshoot technical or scientific problems, working collaboratively with database experts and scientific programmers. You will contribute to grant applications to funding bodies to support research in this area, including personal support. Contribute to discussions planning the overall aims and objectives of the group. Provide bioinformatics input into outline and full grant proposals, as a co-applicant.

It is essential that you hold a PhD in statistical genetics, functional genomics, computational biology or related field, and have demonstrable experience, ability and practical success in biostatistics or bioinformatics. Strong quantitative skills including proficiency in at least one programming language and experience of analysis of large-scale genomic datasets is essential. You will have research experience and a notable publication record, as well as familiarity with existing literature in the field. Experience and ability to supervise team of junior staff is required, as well as being proficient in the use of statistical programming languages.
