Job Description:

Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in Pediatric Obesity and Health Behavior.

About Pennington Biomedical Research Center At the forefront of medical discovery as it relates to understanding the causes of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia, Pennington Biomedical is a campus of Louisiana State University and conducts basic, clinical and population research.

Pennington Biomedical Research Center is a world-renowned academic research institute that is exceptionally well equipped for studying the fundamental mechanisms driving changes in metabolic health. The Center includes three Scientific Divisions: Basic Science, Clinical Research, and Population and Public Health, enabling both focused research and translational science. Research at Pennington is supported broadly by multiple NIH Research Centers, including NORC, COBRE, and LACaTS centers.

The research enterprise at the center includes approximately 65 faculty and more than 20 post-doctoral fellows who comprise a network of 44 laboratories supported by lab technicians, nurses, dietitians and support personnel, and 13 highly specialized core service facilities. Pennington Biomedical is located within state-of-the-art research facilities on a 222-acre campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Postdoctoral Fellow

Primary Responsibilities

Conducting research studies on the prevention and treatment of obesity and related co-morbidities in children and adolescents

Assist with conducting statistical analyses of clinical and population datasets

Preparation of research grant applications and peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and abstracts in the area of obesity and physical activity in children and adolescents

Current ongoing studies include a family-based behavioral treatment program for childhood obesity delivered in clinical settings; technology-mediated physical activity promotion trials using exergames, apps, and telehealth; and observational epidemiological studies on the facilitators and barriers of physical activity and sedentary behavior in children and adolescents, including the use of ecological momentary assessment, accelerometry, global positioning system tracking, and body composition data derived from magnetic resonance imaging.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in psychology, epidemiology, nutritional science, public health, exercise science or a related field.

Special Qualifications Pennington requires the COVID-19 vaccine for all students, faculty, and staff or, for those with an approved exemption, the employee must participate in mandatory biweekly testing. New employees must either submit proof of vaccination or apply for and be granted an exemption prior to their official start date.
