Research Associate (Fixed Term)

The laboratory of Professor Susan Ozanne (https:// www. mrl.ims.cam.ac.uk/research/principal-investigators/susan- ozanne/) is seeking a postdoctoral research associate who has experience in cardio-metabolic phenotyping in rodent models. Our main research interest is in understanding how obesity and impaired glucose tolerance during pregnancy impacts on offspring cardio-metabolic health. We are particularly interested in establishing intervention strategies in the mother that improve both maternal and offspring cardiovascular and metabolic health. Supported by the British Heart Foundation, this post will involve cardio-metabolic phenotyping of rodent models to study the effects of interventions that target insulin resistance and oxidative stress.

Key responsibilities

Scientists with experience in cardiovascular and metabolic phenotyping, especially in relation to maternal and fetal physiology, are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have a background in studying cardio-metabolic physiology in rodents and will have the following responsibilities:

Perform cardiovascular and metabolic phenotyping of mouse models

Assist with rodent colony management

Perform immunoassays, western blotting, RT-PCR and other techniques according to the direction of the project

Present research work and data within the Institute, nationally and internationally and prepare and submit research for publication in peer- reviewed journals

Assist in providing instruction to postgraduate students and other members of the research group in cardio-metabolic phenotyping techniques

Assist the Principal Investigator in preparing manuscripts and applications to funding bodies
