Post Doctoral Research Assistant - Genetics of Eye Development

£36,382 rising annually to £39,739 Full Time, Fixed Term - Researcher

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior postdoctoral research associate/research fellow within the Genetics of Eye Development research team led by Professor Nicola Ragge at Oxford Brookes University. The candidate will join an expanding multidisciplinary research team exploiting whole genome sequencing technologies, and optical gene mapping in parallel with complementary functional techniques to further the understanding of the genetics of human eye and brain developmental disorders, including anophthalmia, microphthalmia and coloboma. The post will also significantly contribute to our ongoing collaborative research efforts with both national and international zebrafish, Xenopus and Drosophila development research groups, as well as a wider network of clinicians and scientists. In addition to performing innovative research, this post provides the opportunity to directly benefit the families affected by these life-changing conditions by contributing to our ongoing translational work to enhance clinical genetic testing in collaboration with our NHS partners.

We seek an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual with excellent human molecular genetics or clinical laboratory skills, with experience of high throughput sequencing and gene mapping to join our team. The post will involve working within the team to run an optical gene mapping platform (Bionano) as well as utilizing WGS/WES data from a large cohort of patents with developmental eye anomalies to identify novel genes and pathways underlying these disorders. This position is suitable for someone with a science degree and a PhD, in molecular biology and/or genetics, with postdoctoral research experience and/or clinical genetics scientific training. The successful candidate will have an excellent opportunity to combine translational research identifying genes involved in developmental eye anomalies with basic research into the function of these genes in eye and brain development.

This post will be based at the Headington campus of Oxford Brookes University, a friendly University that is committed to innovation in research and research excellence. The post is full time and funded for 3 years (fixed term) at grade 9 (Research Fellow/Senior Postdoctoral Research Associate), although applications from less experienced candidates are welcomed and will be considered for appointment at grade 8.
