美国范德堡大学2021年招聘博士后职位(糖尿病相关研究)
Vanderbilt University
The Gu Laboratory at Vanderbilt University is seeking one or more highly motivated postdoctoral fellows (or Research Associates) to conduct diabetes-related studies. Their overall research aims to illustrate the basic molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the production of functional islet beta cells (https://medschool.vanderbilt.edu/cdb/person/guoqiang-gu-ph-d/). Over the past few years, they have made significant progress on these fronts by identifying the genetic/epigenetic factors that determine postnatal functional beta-cell mass (Zhu et al., 2015, Dev. Cell; Huang et al. 2008. Dev. Cell; Liu et al., 2020, Dev. Cell; Hu et al. 2021. Dev. Cell). Thus, their current studies focus on examining whether any of the identified factors regulates the risk of diabetes development in human subjects; they also utilize chemical screens to search for drug candidates that can protect islet beta-cell function and survival under metabolic stress conditions. The individual who fills this position will use genetically modified mice and human donor islets to address these issues.
Dr. Gu is affiliated with the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology, Center for Stem Cell Biology, and Diabetes Research Center in Vanderbilt University, which locates in Nashville, a vibrant and upcoming city in Tennessee, USA. He together with several dozens other Vanderbilt investigators form the Beta-Cell Interest Group (BIG) that specializes in beta-cell biology and diabetes. He highly values basic training to prepare his fellows for higher level positions and encourages his trainees to attend weekly interactions with colleagues in BIG, attending departmental/institutional seminars, and attending local/national/international scientific conferences. The successful candidate is expected run his/her own project under moderate to minimal supervision. He/she is also expected to tutor junior members in the laboratory and collaborate with colleagues within and outside of the Gu lab.
The initial appointment for this position is on year, with future renewal evaluated based on performance and funding availability.
Minimum Requirements: A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in cell biology, developmental biology, molecular genetics, physiology, or related disciplines.
Desired qualifications:
1. Fluent English skills to effectively communicate with colleagues via speaking and writing.
2. Capability and motivation in learning new techniques and starting new projects.
3. Skilled in working with mouse models, and human organoids and/or donor tissues.
4. Skilled in gene expression assays at protein and RNA levels, including routine immune staining, RNA preparation, and RNAseq data analysis, and microscopic imaging/image analysis.
5. Polished presentation skills. These include orally presenting results at seminars and conferences and manuscript-writing to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
6. Capability and willingness to teach junior lab members.
Interested candidates should send an application letter (describing their short- and long-term goal and their qualification) and a CV (including bibliography and contact information for two or more references) to Guoqiang Gu, Professor of Cell and Developmental Biology (Guoqiang.gu@vanderbilt.edu).
