瑞典哥德堡大学2021年招聘博士后职位(风湿病和炎症研究)
University of Gothenburg (GU)
The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 53 500 students and 6 500 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
At the Department of Rheumatology and Inflammation Research, at the Institute of Medicine, the main research areas are inflammation and inflammatory diseases irrespective of whether they are caused by allergies, infections or are autoimmune diseases. The aim is to investigate the underpinning mechanisms behind the inflammation. Several of our researchers also work as senior consultants at the clinics at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, which is a great advantage especially for translational research.
The research group, which is a part of the research collaboration network Centre for Bone and Arthritis Research (CBAR) at the Institute of Medicine, also includes part of Internal medicine and Clinical nutrition. At CBAR, multidisciplinary translational research is performed with the overall aim to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoporosis and how immunological mechanism may affect the skeleton. We now like to expand the group with a postdoc to a project about how bone marrow regulates bone metabolism.
Subject area
Osteoimmunology
Subject area description
Osteoporosis is a common health issue characterized by low bone mass leading to increased fracture risk. The immune system affects the bone as shown in patients with autoimmune diseases who have a pronounced risk for fracture.
Job assignments
The overall task will be to work with experimental models to study the effect of bone marrow transplantation for the skeleton. The work will be based on in vivo work that involves planning, performing and analyzing mouse models. The work includes analysis of DNA / RNA / protein, serum analyses, skeletal analyses with X-ray techniques, histological and molecular biology methods to analyze cells and tissues and breeding. Part of the work will also be working with patient materials, where we will examine serum markers as well as bone specific cells. Evaluation of data using statistical tools will be an integral part of the work. The applicant will also summarize the results for publication in international scientific journals.
Eligibility
To qualify as a postdoctoral researcher the applicant should hold a PhD in a relevant subject. Since postdoctoral constitutes a qualifying appointment for junior researchers, we aim to target those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years from the application deadline.
Assessment
The candidate should have a Ph.D. with an immunological focus or alternative within bone physiology and strong scientific productivity. Proficiency in working with in vivo mouse models and immunological experimental methodology as well as cell stimulation is merit. The successful candidate is expected to be highly motivated and able to plan and execute experiments independently as well as in a group. The applicant is expected to be able to use and further develop existing methods currently used in the laboratory. As we operate in an international environment, the applicant is expected to have good knowledge of communicating in speech and writing in English. Great emphasis is placed on personal qualities, such as the ability to work independently, and organizational skills.
