Applications are invited for a 2-year Post-doctoral fellowship in the field of Metabolic Engineering of Pseudomonas putida. The proposed start date is January 2022. The project aims at expanding the biochemical landscape of bacterial cell factories to access new-to-Nature products through the implementation of synthetic metabolism in bacterial cell factories. The appointed candidate will be expected to (i) work to tight deadlines and manage multiple projects, (ii) interact with other researchers at the SEM Group and the Center for Biosustainability, and other leading partner institutions, (iii) interact in a professional manner with industrial partners in a highly multidisciplinary environment, (iv) report regularly both in the form of written reports and oral presentations (both internally and in conferences), (v) support the research team through training and supervision of other researchers and students, (vi) write scientific papers to high standard, and (vii) actively engage in drafting project proposals and grant applications.
Responsibilities and qualifications The successful applicant shall work independently on the development of high- impact research projects in which a significant workload is expected to advance the research successfully. The candidate will work within a team to develop their independent project, while also contributing to projects of other team members. They will also be responsible for the execution of all aspects of the project including both experimental and computational tasks―and support will be available for all aspects from fellow laboratory members at the Systems Environmental Microbiology group and core facilities at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability.
Critical responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
Intensive wet-lab work on Biochemistry, Metabolic Engineering and Synthetic Biology in microorganisms.
Deep knowledge in high-throughput analytics, including LC-MS/MS analysis (targeted metabolomics and proteomics), GC-MS/MS analysis, and 13C-based technologies.
Design of synthetic biology tools tailored for environmental bacteria.
As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
Preferred applicants will have excellent academic record of accomplishment, solid research experience, and will be highly motivated towards developing novel technologies and approaches for the production of new-to-Nature compounds, with a genuinely curious approach to Science.
Excellent communication skills, fluent written and oral English.
Hands-on experience in genome engineering of Pseudomonas will be positively evaluated.
Deep knowledge on analytical techniques (in particular, for fluorinated compounds) is a must, ideally demonstrated by articles published within the domain of new-to-nature products.

Salary and terms of employment The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
The work place will be the Novo Nordisk Center for Biosustainability, located in the Lyngby campus of the DTU.
The period of employment is 2 years.
