英国伯明翰大学2021年招聘博士后职位(免疫学与免疫疗法)
Research Fellow - Institute of Immunology and Immunotherapy -98830 - Grade 7
University of Birmingham
Description
Background
We seek to appoint a highly motivated individual to join an internationally recognised research group in the College of Medical and Dental Sciences' Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy. The post holder will be based in the research group of Professor Ben Willcox.
The post holder will join the research team of Professor Willcox funded by a Wellcome Trust Collaborative Award in Science, entitled ‘Unconventional dynamics: turnover, structure and maintenance of the γδ T cell population in humans.' The post-holder will lead Willcox group efforts on this Collaborator award, to help generate a quantitative understanding of the dynamics of human γδ T cell populations. They will working with our partner teams led by Professor Becca Asquith (Imperial College London) and Professor Derek Macallan (St George's, University of London), collectively employing an interdisciplinary approach that includes non-invasive labelling technologies (pioneered by Prof Macallan), clonotypic, phenoytypic and functional assays of γδ T cells and comparator populations (a focus for the Willcox group) and mathematical modelling (led by Prof Asquith's team). The post-holder's efforts will focus significantly on γδ TCR sequencing, immunophenotyping, and telomere length and thymic recombination excision circle (TREC) analysis, alongside functional assays. The collaborative team will integrate information gained on the dynamics of both innate-like and adaptive-like human γδ T cell populations and how these compare with established classical adaptive and innate-like αβ T cell populations. We will synthesise the information obtained to generate a quantitative, mechanistic model of how distinct γδ T cell subsets are controlled in normal immune physiology relative to other immune compartments, and how they change with age.
