瑞士苏黎世联邦理工学院2022年招聘博士后职位(食品免疫学实验室)

Research associate - Laboratory for Food Immunology

ETH Zurich

Description

We are seeking a research associate to perform experimental work within the frame of a joint Innosuisse project between the Laboratory of Food Immunology and PharmaBiome AG. The position will be part of the Laboratory of Food Immunology, but work in close contact with the project industry partner PharmaBiome AG (located in Schlieren, Zürich).

The Food Immunology group focuses on understanding the crosstalk between the microbiota and the immune system. We apply this understanding to develop therapies and prophylaxis for diseases connected to the gut microbiota. Our interdisciplinary team is integrated in the institute for Food, Nutrition and Health, in the department of Health Sciences and Technology at ETH Zürich - a leader in the development of novel health interventions with a strong emphasis on translation. The industry partner on this project, PharmaBiome AG , is a pioneer in the development and production of live biotherapeutic products to address disturbances of the gut microbiome. Founded in Zurich in 2015, at the intersection of microbiology, biotechnology, and data science, it has developed the first-in-the-industry, patent-protected technology platform for the production of standardized microbiome-based products.

Project background

The focus of the research is translational microbiome science and involves working with germ-free, gnotobiotic, and conventional SPF mice. The experiments will be performed at the ETH Phenomics Center (EPIC; www. epic.ethz.ch). The successful applicant will be responsible for planning and performing these experiments in mice, for processing and analyzing the samples from these experiments, and for interpretation and presentation of results. You will perform work both in the Food Immunology group at ETH Hönggerberg as well as PharmaBiome's laboratories in Schlieren.

Job description

Planning and execution of mouse experiments

Handling of mice & application of key techniques: in vivo sampling, gavage, i.p. injections, euthanasia, dissections and harvesting of tissues / biofluids

Health assessment of animals based on clinical observations, health checks, and disease scoring during the course of the animal study

Ex vivo evaluation of mouse samples (ELISA, PCR, biochemical assays)

Documenting experiments in an electronic laboratory journal

Independently searching for information in scientific and technical literature and present data within the teams

Interfacing between research at the Laboratory of Food Immunology and PharmaBiome AG

Your profile

Your profile will include completed training as a laboratory technician or a degree in Health Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline. Crucial to success will be your ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team and your motivation and ability to execute experiments and record data in a highly-organized and precise manner. Relevant expertise includes microbiology, molecular biology, and immunology wet-lab work. Importantly, experience in using mouse models for research, together with the required certification in Switzerland (LTK Module 1) is essential. Experience in working with germ-free or gnotobiotic models would be a big plus. Fluency in spoken and written English is required, German would be a bonus.

Skills and competencies:

Solid technical expertise in mouse experimentation

LTK1 or equivalent certification

Preferably experience in working with germ-free and gnotobiotic animals

Experience in molecular biology and microbiology

Experience in microbiome-related research

Fluency in spoken and written English, German skills desirable
