Description

This project involves screening blocking antibodies that can enhance the immune response against tumours and anti-angiogenesis in the cancer microenvironment. The project will involve cell culture of cancer cells and endothelial cells, treatment with blocking antibodies, T cell activation, proliferation and cytotoxicity assay, tube formation assay with endothelial cells, ELISA etc.

You will undertake research within the scope of the project, establishing a programme of research activity working collaboratively with colleagues at UH and partner organisations as appropriate. You will also attend project meetings within UH, nationally and internationally as appropriate, seek external funding as appropriate and disseminate the outcomes of the project in publications, at conferences and through other appropriate media.

The role will require you to design and conduct experiments, develop new assays, participate in online or face-to-face conferences and summarise findings and present in internal meetings. You will be expected to supervise undergraduate and post-graduate student projects related to the research field and create opportunities to maximise the wider economic and social impact of research activities, capturing relevant evidence to support impact and engaging with external partners and stakeholders as appropriate.

Skills and experience needed

You will have proven experience working in a research environment, with particular experience in cancer biology, immunology, cell culture, molecular biology techniques and in cancer immunology, cancer cell line and endothelial cell line maintenance. You will also have a record of scholarly work such as published work in peer reviewed journals and experience of presenting research findings such as contributions to conferences and symposia at a local and national level.

You must have excellent problem-solving abilities, good analytical skills and good relevant IT skills. You will have knowledge of research methodology appropriate for the subject area as well as the ability to plan and manage own activities effectively, and deal with sensitive material with strict confidentiality. You will have knowledge of appropriate databases for the discipline and ability to conduct literature searches in the discipline using appropriate electronic resources. You will also be expected to have good oral and written communication skills in both spoken and written English.

You will be flexible and adaptable with work and effective in a team setting.

Qualifications required

You must hold a minimum of an undergraduate honours' degree at a minimum 2:2, or equivalent qualification, in a relevant subject area. In addition to this you will also need to hold a PhD, or close to completion (within 3 months of viva), or equivalent qualification, in a relevant subject or equivalent experience.
