美国桑迪亚国家实验室2022年招聘博士后职位(材料光谱学与成像研究)
Optical Spectroscopy and Imaging of Materials - Postdoctoral Appointee
Sandia National Laboratories
Posting Duration
This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.
COVID-19 Vaccination Mandate
Sandia demonstrates its commitment to public safety in the national interest by requiring that all new hires be fully vaccinated or have an approved medical or religious accommodation before commencing employment. The requirement also applies to those who are telecommuting and working virtually.
Any concerns about the ability to meet this requirement should be directed to HR Solutions at (505) 284-4700.
What Your Job Will Be Like
Are you passionate about the development of novel spectroscopic and imaging approaches to tackle problems in a variety of chemical and materials systems? Join us to begin this exciting and creative research! In this Postdoctoral Appointee role, you will engage in research efforts to extend basic understanding of material-photon-phonon interactions and multi-physical phenomena, elucidate how such interactions can be used for function, and drive innovations in optical imaging that can be applied to a wide range of further materials and microelectronics characterization.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
•Perform material and chemical characterization by spectroscopic and electronic measurement techniques including Raman, FTIR, UV-vis, confocal laser scanning microscopy, and ultrafast time-resolved spectroscopies.
•Use a combination of first-principles simulation and/or lineshape modeling to extract physical information from spectra and to correlate this information with performance metrics and properties of systems including microelectronics, nanomaterials, metamaterials, glasses, optoelectronics, ionic liquids, molten salts, and others.
•Assist in the design, building, and testing of sophisticated optical imaging systems including miniaturized 3-D imaging and SWIR hyperspectral imaging platforms (optical modeling by ray-tracing, image processing of structured light projections, and building and optimizing prototype demonstration platforms).
•Design, test, and optimize optical and spectroscopic imaging techniques.
•Contribute to team efforts to publish and present results in leading journals and conferences.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Qualifications We Require
•PhD, conferred within five years prior to employment, in a STEM field plus a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field
•Experience using and developing vibrational spectroscopic techniques to identify, examine, and understand material properties and performance
•Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
Qualifications We Desire
•PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Optics
•Motivation and ability to tackle technical problems independently
•Interpersonal and communication skills encouraging effective scientific collaborations with a diverse population of researchers
•Proficiency in MATLAB, PYTHON or similar coding environment
•Proficiency in COMSOL, ZEMAX, VASP, GAUSSIAN
•Experience designing experiments to provide data analysis, statistics, and use of multivariate analysis techniques, e.g. Principle Component Analysis
•Experience with the theory and modeling of Raman and resonance Raman scattering
•Experience building optical systems for imaging or spectroscopy as well as ultrafast spectroscopic techniques (e.g. transient absorption, stimulated Raman, impulsive vibrational spectroscopy, time-domain thermo-reflectance)
About Our Team
The Applied Optical and Plasma Sciences Department has three main thrust areas: Laser and Optical Diagnostics, Low Temperature Plasma Physics, and Thermal Characterization of Materials. The Laser and Optical Diagnostics thrust conducts innovative research and application development in LIDAR remote sensing, laser sources and characterization, and optical spectroscopy providing unique, real-time, non-contact, in-situ optical diagnostic capabilities. The Low Temperature Plasma physics thrust investigates a range of phenomena from fundamental plasma physics to the application of plasma science for understanding device operation. A tightly coupled group of experimental and computational physicists develop novel experimental diagnostics and advanced computational models targeting plasma-surface interactions, arc discharge (vacuum to high pressure), and complex plasma chemistry. The Thermal Characterization thrust researches the fundamental thermal properties and decomposition products and pathways of a wide variety of materials experiencing an expansive range of environments. This work entails both innovative diagnostics as well as developing custom diagnostics and techniques to provide information on the underlying science of thermal behaviors of materials.

Security Clearance
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
EEO
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.
Position Information
This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia’s discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment.
Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
