Summary of Role

A postdoctoral position in synthetic and medicinal chemistry is now available in Medicinal Chemistry Team 2 at The Institute of Cancer Research. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team focussed on exciting drug discovery projects targeting children’s brain tumours in the CRUK Children’s Brain Tumour Centre of Excellence (CRUK CBTCE). The position is located in state-of-the-art laboratories within the newly opened Centre for Cancer Drug Discovery, Sutton, London.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated scientist who will apply their synthetic organic chemistry skills and familiarity with medicinal chemistry approaches to design and prepare new molecules of interest as anticancer agents. The role involves working in a close, multi-disciplinary collaboration with scientists at the ICR and Cambridge University.

Key Requirements

Knowledge, experience and achievement in synthetic chemistry, and familiarity with medicinal chemistry approaches, are essential. The successful applicant will have ample opportunity to develop additional skills in post. This is an ideal opportunity for enthusiastic, committed chemist to make an important contribution to improve therapies for children with brain tumours, while gaining experience and training in drug discovery skills in an institute with a track record of success.

Department/Directorate Information:

The Cancer Research UK Cancer Therapeutics Unit, within the Division of Cancer Therapeutics, is a multidisciplinary ‘bench to bedside’ centre, comprising around 200 staff dedicated to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for the treatment of cancer. The Cancer Therapeutics Unit’s exciting goal is to discover high quality drug candidates for validated biological targets and to progress these candidates to clinical trial. All the scientific disciplines are in place to make this possible. Our biologists work alongside world-class chemists and drug metabolism specialists focusing on new molecular targets emerging from human genome and ground breaking cell biology research. This is an exciting and fast moving area of cancer research, and offers the opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary environment using state-of-the-art techniques and equipment.
