美国哥伦比亚大学2022年招聘博士后职位(神经科学方向)
Position Description
The Ramachandran Laboratory in the Departments of Neurology and Neuroscience, at the Taub Institute on Alzheimer’s Disease and the Aging Brain, is looking for two rigorous and creative postdoctoral fellows that will spearhead projects in the lab. This post is for an individual with significant experience in neurobiology, imaging, and electrophysiology and wants to gain experience in molecular neuroscience and biochemistry, protein homeostasis, and disease-relevant mechanisms.
Background: We study a new mechanism of protein degradation and protein homeostasis in neurons enabled by a plasma membrane-bound proteasome complex which we discovered. These “neuroproteasomes” degrade substrates independent of ubiquitylation and the resulting products of degradation are used as neuromodulators. This discovery goes against established dogma in proteostasis and in neurobiology – our goal is to understand mechanistically how neuroproteasome activity and function is enabled and to reveal the biological function of neuroproteasomes in the mammalian brain.
Laboratory Culture: We adopt a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to understanding neuroproteasome function, leveraging chemical biology, super-resolution microscopy, functional and Ca+2 imaging, quantitative proteomics, in vivo mouse work, primary neuronal culture, and biochemistry. We expect that candidates will treat undergraduate, technicians, graduate students, postdocs, and faculty with respect. This enables a truly collaborative environment where everyone is heard and recognized and where ideas can flourish. We are also surrounded by a flourishing and vibrant community, both at the Taub Institute and the Zuckerman Institute. We expect postdoctoral fellows to integrate with these communities, learn from them, and contribute to them, as representatives of the lab and of the community. We also expect postdoctoral fellows to present their work internally and at conferences.
Salary/compensation: The position is grant funded for at least two years. NYC is a vibrant and wonderful place to live but can be expensive. To offset this, candidates will be provided a negotiable NYC living pay increase above the NIH minimum.
Qualifications
Search criteria: This search is for a candidate who has significant experience in neurobiology, advanced imaging techniques, and/or slice electrophysiology. Ideal technical backgrounds: single or multiphoton calcium imaging, confocal microscopy, live neuronal imaging, brain slice preparation and imaging, slice physiology, microfluidics. Comfort with ICV cannulation, mouse surgeries, and Cisterna Magna injections would be huge plus. Mouse work or in vivo work is important for this role. Candidates should have a Ph.D in Neuroscience, Physiology, or related disciplines. The ability to balance and progress two independent projects is required.
Career opportunities: A solid record of references and publications should support the candidates’ abilities. Ideal candidates will want to transform and build a new what we anticipate will be a new field in neuronal cell biology. Anyone who joins the lab will have the opportunity to take their postdoctoral work with them to start their independent group. They will also be unconditionally supported towards pursuing other paths (industry, consulting, policy, writing, etc), but candidates are asked to stay at a minimum of two years before leaving to other opportunities.
